Position Overview
This R&D / Product Development Engineer role at Vertiv contributes to the innovation and enhancement of the busbar trunking product line. You will define product specifications and functionalities in line with IEC61439 and UL857 standards, develop 3D models and 2D drawings using Creo or SolidWorks, build prototypes, conduct DFMEA product risk assessments, manage engineering change processes, work with external suppliers to source components, and maintain organized drawings and documentation — all within Vertiv’s established NPDI process framework.

Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Specification
- Define product specifications, features, and functionalities while ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards
- Develop product designs in accordance with IEC61439 and UL857 product standards
- Build prototypes to support product design development and validation
3D Modelling, 2D Drafting & GD&T
- Perform 3D modelling and 2D drafting (first angle and third angle projection) of product designs using Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent
- Apply GD&T (Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles across mechanical design documentation
- Maintain organized drawings and documentation for efficient reference and engineering data management
NPDI Process, DFMEA & Engineering Change
- Adhere to the department’s NPDI process and complete all relevant documentation at each stage
- Conduct product risk assessment through DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Follow the engineering change process for existing products and ensure accurate, timely responses to design information requests
Supplier Collaboration & Cross-Functional Interaction
- Work closely with external suppliers and partners to source components and materials
- Interact frequently with Offering Management, Marketing, Sales, and other internal departments
- Stay current with technological advancements and industry developments to enhance product offerings
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Design Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience Requirements
- 3–5 years of design experience in NPDI/NPD/NPI or the Switchgear/busbar industry; OR
- 5–7 years of experience in the Automotive or Manufacturing sector
- Experience designing mild steel sheet welded assemblies, extruded/injection molded plastic parts and assemblies
- Experience with power distribution applications and/or the data centre industry is advantageous
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in 3D modelling using Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D design package
- Proficiency in product lifecycle management (PLM) software and engineering data management systems (PDM/PD Cloud)
- Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and DFE (Design for Environment)
- Knowledge of process flow, PFMEA, control plans, and standard operating procedure preparation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Smartsheet and other business applications are desirable
