Position Overview
This Senior Java Software Engineer role at a cybersecurity scale-up in Abu Dhabi is a full-time, deeply technical platform engineering position with a remarkable compensation package of 30,000 to 40,000 AED per month — fully tax-free — plus a comprehensive relocation package for candidates joining from outside the UAE. You will build and evolve the internal platforms, frameworks, SDKs, and developer tooling that power the company’s engineering capability at scale. Working across cloud-agnostic architectures on AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, and bare-metal environments, you will bring deep JVM expertise, reactive systems knowledge, and distributed systems fundamentals to deliver reliable, observable, and production-ready platforms that enable engineering teams to move faster and more confidently on mission-critical security products. With 8 or more years of production Java experience and a passion for platform engineering, this is one of the most technically and financially compelling Senior Java roles available in the Middle East in 2026.
Why This Role Matters: As Senior Java Software Engineer at this Abu Dhabi cybersecurity company, you are building the engineering platform that powers mission-critical security products protecting enterprises and governments — work that matters at a fundamental level, earning 30,000–40,000 AED tax-free per month in one of the world’s most desirable and safest cities means your compensation in real purchasing-power terms rivals or exceeds most equivalent roles in London, New York, or Singapore, you get genuine ownership of key platform decisions rather than executing a roadmap handed down from above — your architectural thinking shapes the company’s engineering future, you join an innovation ecosystem that the UAE government has invested billions into building, surrounded by some of the world’s most ambitious technology companies and talent, and you build your career in a high-autonomy, deeply technical cybersecurity engineering culture that values engineering excellence above all else.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Engineering & Internal Framework Development
- Build and continuously evolve the internal platforms, frameworks, libraries, and SDKs that enable engineering teams across the organization to ship products faster and more reliably
- Design and implement developer tooling that raises engineering velocity, code quality, and production readiness across the company’s mission-critical security product portfolio
- Establish and maintain shared technical foundations that promote consistency, reusability, and engineering best practices across multiple product teams
- Own key platform architecture decisions — contributing deeply to how the engineering platform evolves as the company scales in both product complexity and engineering headcount
Cloud-Agnostic Delivery & Kubernetes Architecture
- Enable true cloud-agnostic delivery across AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes-native deployments, and bare-metal environments to maximize flexibility and customer choice
- Design and implement multi-cloud and hybrid architecture patterns that allow security products to be deployed reliably across diverse customer infrastructure environments
- Contribute to Kubernetes-native deployment strategies, container orchestration patterns, and infrastructure abstraction layers that support the platform’s scalability goals
- Ensure cloud-agnostic design decisions are embedded early in the development lifecycle — preventing vendor lock-in and maximizing infrastructure portability
JVM Expertise, Performance & Reliability
- Apply deep JVM expertise — including concurrency models, garbage collection tuning, profiling, and performance optimization — to ensure platform components perform at production scale
- Build and maintain reactive systems using Spring Boot and Project Reactor / WebFlux for high-throughput, low-latency, and resilient service architectures
- Own production systems end-to-end in high-availability environments, ensuring the reliability, stability, and performance commitments that mission-critical security products demand
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, memory issues, and reliability risks across JVM-based services through rigorous profiling and systematic optimization
Distributed Systems & Observability
- Apply strong distributed systems fundamentals — including consistency models, retry strategies, idempotency, failure modes, and backpressure — across all platform and service designs
- Drive a strong observability culture by defining and implementing SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, alerting frameworks, and distributed tracing across production services
- Ensure all platform components are instrumented for production readiness — providing engineering teams with the visibility they need to understand, diagnose, and improve system behavior
- Contribute to incident review, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement initiatives that continuously raise the production readiness bar across the engineering organization
Qualifications & Requirements
Technical Requirements
- 8 or more years of production Java experience — Java 17 or Java 21 strongly preferred given the company’s modern JVM technology choices
- Deep JVM expertise covering concurrency, garbage collection tuning, profiling techniques, and comprehensive performance optimization in production environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and reactive programming systems using Project Reactor and Spring WebFlux
- Proven experience building internal platforms, frameworks, SDKs, or shared libraries at scale within engineering organizations
- Strong distributed systems fundamentals — consistency, retry logic, idempotency, failure modes, and backpressure management in production distributed architectures
- Experience with Kubernetes-native and cloud-agnostic architectures covering multi-cloud and hybrid deployment patterns across AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Strong observability mindset with practical experience defining and implementing SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and production alerting frameworks
- Demonstrated experience owning production systems end-to-end in high-availability, mission-critical environments
