Position Overview
This Machine Learning Scientist role defines new ML features, frames product problems, researches algorithms and gets prototypes into customers’ hands fast. A dedicated ML product engineering team helps ship to beta within weeks of a successful offline test.
Why This Role Matters: The team has productized everything from classic supervised models to unsupervised clustering and transformer networks, and measures the real customer impact of each model it ships.
Key Responsibilities
Problem Framing & Research
- Identify where ML can create value for customers and frame product problems the right way
- Run exploratory data analysis and research, and understand the problem area deeply
- Research and select the right algorithms and tools, staying pragmatic but going to the cutting edge when needed
Evaluation & Delivery
- Run offline evaluations to gather evidence that an algorithm will work
- Work with engineers to bring prototypes to production
- Plan, measure and share learnings to guide iteration
Collaboration
- Work with teammates and Product and Design stakeholders to build excellent ML products
Qualifications
Experience
- Broad applied machine learning knowledge and 3-5 years of applied ML experience
- Practical statistics knowledge, such as experiment design and handling confounding
- Intermediate programming skills
Skills
- Strong communication across engineering and other disciplines
- Comfort with ambiguity and scientific thinking
- Typically advanced education in ML or a related field (for example an MSc)
Bonus
- Track record of shipping ML products, PhD or research experience
- Depth in areas such as NLP, deep learning, Bayesian methods, reinforcement learning or clustering
- Strong stats or math background, and data skills such as SQL and matplotlib
