Position Overview
The Structural Steel Design Engineer at AcouBIM Engineering is a technically rewarding and professionally distinctive role within one of the UAE’s most innovative specialist consultancies. You will be responsible for designing and detailing structural steel elements for building and infrastructure projects — performing structural analysis and design calculations, preparing engineering drawings and technical documentation, and coordinating actively with acoustic, BIM, and CFD engineering teams to ensure all structural solutions are fully integrated within the project’s digital and performance design framework.
What makes this role genuinely different from a conventional structural engineering position is the multidisciplinary environment in which you will work. At AcouBIM Engineering, structural design does not happen in isolation — it happens in full coordination with building acoustics, computational fluid dynamics, and BIM workflows from the earliest design stages. If you are a structural steel engineer who wants to contribute to a truly integrated, simulation-backed approach to high-performance building design in the UAE, this is the consultancy where your career takes a distinctive and rewarding direction in 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Steel Design & Analysis
- Design and detail structural steel elements for building and infrastructure projects — producing structurally sound, cost-effective, and constructible steel designs that comply with applicable UAE and GCC building codes and project specifications
- Perform structural analysis and design calculations for steel frames, connections, beams, columns, bracing systems, and support structures — applying first-principles engineering analysis supported by appropriate design software and calculation tools
- Review project specifications, structural codes, and authority requirements — ensuring all structural steel design outputs consistently meet the relevant UAE, GCC, and international standards applicable to each project
- Support the development of efficient, safe, and cost-effective steel structures — applying value engineering thinking to identify opportunities for structural optimisation without compromising safety, performance, or constructability
Engineering Drawing Preparation & Documentation
- Prepare accurate and detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation using AutoCAD and CAD tools — producing structural steel general arrangement drawings, connection details, and erection drawings to the standard required by contractors and project teams
- Produce clear, well-organised calculation packages and technical submissions that document the structural design basis, loading assumptions, member design, and connection calculations for each structural steel element designed
- Respond professionally and promptly to design queries from site teams — clarifying design intent, resolving construction interface questions, and providing supplementary technical information to support accurate steel fabrication and erection on-site
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation records across all active projects — ensuring a complete audit trail of design decisions, revision histories, and technical correspondence throughout the full project lifecycle
BIM Coordination & Multi-Discipline Integration
- Coordinate closely with BIM, acoustic, and CFD engineering teams to ensure that structural steel designs are fully integrated within the project’s coordinated digital model — contributing to clash-free, multidisciplinary BIM outputs that support accurate construction planning
- Contribute to the development of coordinated BIM models — ensuring that structural steel elements are modelled correctly, co-ordinated with architectural and MEP disciplines, and clash-checked against all other building systems before construction documentation is issued
- Attend and contribute to multi-discipline coordination meetings — representing the structural engineering perspective, identifying and resolving cross-discipline interface issues, and ensuring that structural decisions support the overall integrated building performance objectives
- Collaborate with architects and other engineering disciplines on a daily basis — providing structural input during design development, reviewing architectural proposals for structural feasibility, and contributing to an integrated design process that achieves both technical and aesthetic project objectives
Quality Assurance & Problem-Solving
- Apply a proactive approach to quality assurance — checking your own calculations and drawings against project requirements, codes, and best practice before submission, and contributing to a team culture of technical accuracy and engineering rigour
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in identifying and resolving structural design challenges — thinking creatively about efficient solutions that work within project constraints and meet client performance requirements
- Manage your workload effectively across multiple concurrent projects and deadlines — prioritising tasks, communicating progress proactively, and raising concerns about capacity or timeline risks in advance to allow effective project management
- Adhere to GCC and UAE regional standards and client requirements throughout all design activities — ensuring that every deliverable reflects AcouBIM Engineering’s commitment to technically excellent, compliant, and integrated building engineering solutions
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering — from a recognised university; candidates with a relevant degree and specific structural steel design experience will be given strong consideration
- Additional professional qualifications, chartership progress, or certifications in structural design, BIM, or GCC regulatory standards are advantageous and will strengthen a candidate’s application
Technical Skills
- Strong skills in Structural Analysis and Structural Engineering — with demonstrable experience in steel design and familiarity with relevant design codes including UAE structural standards and internationally recognised steel design codes
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for preparing detailed structural steel drawings and models — essential for producing the standard of documentation required on AcouBIM Engineering’s projects
- Solid foundation in Civil Engineering principles — including understanding of building loads, load paths, material properties, construction methods, and structural system interactions
- Knowledge of GCC and UAE building regulations — able to apply regional code requirements to structural steel design independently and accurately across UAE and Saudi Arabia project work
Collaboration & Soft Skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills — able to work productively within a multidisciplinary team environment, coordinate with BIM and acoustic engineers, and communicate technical information clearly to non-structural colleagues and clients
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail — essential for the integrated, simulation-backed engineering environment at AcouBIM Engineering where precision and coordination across disciplines are fundamental to project success
- Capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines in an on-site work environment — organised, proactive, and able to maintain consistent output quality across concurrent design assignments
Why a Structural Steel Design Role at AcouBIM Engineering Is Unique in 2026
Most structural engineering roles in the UAE operate within conventional design-build or consultancy frameworks where structural, MEP, and acoustic teams work largely in isolation. AcouBIM Engineering is fundamentally different. By integrating acoustic engineering, BIM, and CFD from the earliest project stages, the firm delivers a level of coordinated building performance that isolated discipline practices simply cannot match — and the Structural Steel Design Engineer is a core contributor to that integrated approach.
For a structural engineer who wants to expand their professional horizons beyond conventional steel design — engaging with BIM coordination, acoustic performance integration, and CFD-informed structural solutions — this role at AcouBIM Engineering’s Sharjah office offers a genuinely distinctive career experience in the UAE’s growing specialist technical consultancy sector. Combined with direct access to technical leads, a founder-led culture of engineering excellence, and active project work across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, this is a role for a structural engineer who wants their work to be part of something meaningfully better in 2026.
Who Should Apply?
- Structural Steel Design Engineers with UAE Experience: With a BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering, strong AutoCAD proficiency, and demonstrable experience in steel structure design and detailing in the UAE or GCC market
- BIM-Integrated Structural Engineers: Who are comfortable coordinating structural steel models within multidisciplinary BIM environments — contributing to clash-free, coordinated digital project models alongside architectural, MEP, and specialist teams
- Civil Engineers with Steel Design Specialisation: Looking to join an innovative specialist consultancy where their structural expertise will be applied within an integrated acoustic, CFD, and BIM engineering framework — not a conventional structural silo
- GCC Code-Knowledgeable Engineers: Familiar with UAE and Saudi Arabia building regulations, structural standards, and regional design requirements — able to apply this knowledge independently across active project work in both markets
- UAE-Based or Relocating Structural Engineers: Seeking a full-time, on-site role in Sharjah with a genuinely innovative UAE technical consultancy — contributing to high-performance building projects where integrated engineering, simulation, and digital coordination are the foundations of every solution
