Position Overview
The Crop Specialist at AGRILAND FS in Humeston, IA combines agronomic expertise with consultative sales skills to serve Iowa farmers with the crop input products, services and technical advice they need to maximize productivity across every acre. Working directly with targeted growers and prospects across the Humeston territory, this professional markets agronomy products, resolves agronomic challenges, utilizes precision farming tools and crop scouting techniques and leverages AGRILAND FS’s full range of business solutions to build trusted, long-term relationships with Iowa farming customers. AGRILAND FS provides excellent training and development to support every Crop Specialist’s growth into a fully respected agronomic consultant in their community.
Why This Role Matters: At AGRILAND FS, the Crop Specialist is the most important relationship in a farmer’s agronomic season. The seed recommendation you make, the fertilizer program you design, the crop protection solution you prescribe and the precision farming data you help a grower interpret all directly impact what that farm produces — and what that farm family earns — at the end of the year. That is not just an agronomy sales role. That is a genuine, trusted advisory partnership with the farmers and families who feed the country from the fields of southern Iowa, one acre at a time.
Key Responsibilities
Agronomy Sales & Customer Development
- Contact targeted customers and prospects systematically and professionally — marketing AGRILAND FS agronomy products and services that directly enhance the productivity, profitability and efficiency of Iowa producers’ farming operations.
- Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with growers across the Humeston territory — acting as a genuine agronomic consultant and business partner rather than simply a product salesperson.
- Work hours beyond normal when needed to meet and genuinely exceed the agronomic and service needs of customers during critical periods such as planting, growing season and harvest.
- Develop and execute an effective territory management plan — identifying new prospect opportunities, managing existing accounts and consistently growing AGRILAND FS’s market share within the Humeston trading area.
Agronomic Problem-Solving & Field Consulting
- Resolve agronomic problems for grower customers — diagnosing crop health issues, soil fertility challenges, pest and disease pressures and implementing practical, science-based solutions that protect and maximize yield.
- Utilize precision farming tools, crop scouting data and soil sampling results to provide data-driven agronomic recommendations — adding measurable, demonstrable value to every customer relationship.
- Stay current on the latest seed varieties, crop protection chemistries, fertilizer science and precision agriculture technologies relevant to southern Iowa’s cropping systems — continuously building the agronomic expertise that sets AGRILAND FS specialists apart in the community.
Business Solutions & Sales Tools Utilization
- Utilize all available AGRILAND FS sales tools — including Precision Farming platforms, Crop Scouting programs, Finance solutions and other business solutions — to enhance customer relationships and differentiate AGRILAND FS’s full-acre value proposition.
- Collaborate effectively with AGRILAND FS team members across agronomy, energy and other business lines — supporting integrated customer solutions that address farmers’ complete operational needs beyond crop inputs alone.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of customer interactions, sales activities and agronomic recommendations — supporting effective territory management and AGRILAND FS’s continuous improvement of customer service quality.

Educational & Experience Requirements
- Minimum of a two or four-year degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Business or a related field — or equivalent experience in sales or an agriculture-related industry.
- Strong agricultural aptitude and experience learning on the job — with the drive and intellectual curiosity to continuously build agronomic expertise through AGRILAND FS’s training and development programs.
- Demonstrated examples of influencing others in either a leadership or sales relationship — showing the interpersonal skills needed to build trust and persuade farmers to partner with AGRILAND FS on their crop programs.
