Position Overview
This Grain Facility Superintendent role is primarily responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at the assigned location, ensuring safe, consistent, efficient, and profitable operations. Responsibilities include management of assigned location staff, staffing, logistics, inventory, maintenance, efficiency, quality, and customer service. You will spend your first several months learning the operation from the ground up, working alongside the crew to support maintenance and troubleshooting, while also promoting and maintaining a positive image within local communities.

Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership & Performance
- Supervise employees across all applicable operations at the assigned location (grain and terminal, soybean plant, etc.)
- Take ultimate responsibility for location results, working with management to ensure operations remain optimally profitable
- Develop location benchmarks, report on results, and develop improvement plans for underperforming areas
Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Actively lead, direct, and communicate the company’s safety program to assigned staff
- Schedule and moderate monthly safety meetings, set safety goals, and monitor safety behaviors and audits
- Ensure employee compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, including proper PPE use
Staffing, Budget & Team Development
- Work with the management team to develop and revise budget forecasts
- Oversee staffing and job development activities, including hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management
- Develop, communicate, and manage staff performance expectations aligned with company goals
- Actively participate in the trainee program, coaching trainees through their curriculum
Quality, Compliance & Cross-Departmental Coordination
- Determine the need for and schedule Barge/Rail/Grain Inspectors as appropriate
- Conduct quality internal audits and make modifications to PSM & MOC as necessary
- Communicate with departmental staff to ensure collaboration on services like Marine Services and Merchandisers
- Ensure staff and facilities remain compliant with all applicable state and federal regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned, including walkthroughs, audits, inventory monitoring, and housekeeping
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training and work experience
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Technical Systems Management
Experience Requirements
- 3 years’ experience in various sides of the specific business unit
Essential Skills
- Working knowledge of location cost structures, mix and blend analysis, safety, and preventive maintenance
- Understanding of OSHA, EPA, freight, FOB/CIF marketing, and location operations including storage, rail, and barge handling
- Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Effective leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Strong decision-making, conflict management, and troubleshooting skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills with flexibility to changing priorities
- Good mechanical skills and ability to perform any job duties supervised at the location
- Ability to coach, mentor, and lead staff effectively in a team environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat frequently
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, and work at significant heights
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. depending on daily needs
- Ability to distinguish grade, color, odor, and damage characteristics in grain samples
- Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions and around high dust levels
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts as needed
