Position Overview
As Seed Specialist, you will contribute directly to the future of North America’s forests through hands-on work in pine cone and seed processing, seed production, and team collaboration. Responsibilities include supporting seed cleaning, drying, and sizing processes, performing routine preventive care and maintenance of buildings and machines, safely operating equipment such as tractors, forklifts, boom lifts, and UTVs, and maintaining accurate production records.

Key Responsibilities
Seed Processing Operations
- Support all aspects of seed cleaning, drying, and sizing processes
- Perform routine preventive care and maintenance of buildings and machines
- Contribute to producing top-quality, genetically improved southern pine seed
- Help maximize productivity and minimize waste across the seed processing facility
Equipment Handling & Maintenance
- Safely operate a range of equipment including tractors, forklifts, boom lifts, UTVs, and power tools
- Diagnose and repair minor mechanical breakdowns effectively
- Maintain equipment for safe, reliable, day-to-day use
- Support facility operations through hands-on machine repair skills
Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with internal teams and external partners to achieve production and research goals
- Maintain accurate records of seed processing activities and track progress against targets
- Contribute ideas and embrace innovation to improve safety, efficiency, and operational effectiveness
- Foster strong working relationships through honest, respectful, team-oriented communication
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, or Forestry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience Requirements
- Previous experience required, though transferable backgrounds are welcomed, including horticulture, agriculture, forestry, silviculture, arboriculture, nursery operations, orchard or greenhouse management, landscaping, plant propagation, environmental science, or conservation
- Experience with equipment operation such as tractors, UTVs, chainsaws, or forklifts is valuable
Essential Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent mechanical skills, including diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical breakdowns
- Proficiency with digital tools including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Epicor
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt
