Position Overview
This Ocean Freight Operations Manager role involves managing vessel schedules, cargo bookings, container movements, and shipment milestones, preparing and reviewing bills of lading and shipping documents, and tracking import/export shipments. You will coordinate container pickup, delivery, and discharge activities, monitor demurrage and logistics costs, support customs clearance, and investigate cargo discrepancies and service failures.

Key Responsibilities
Freight Coordination & Vessel Management
- Coordinate end-to-end ocean freight operations, from booking through final delivery
- Manage vessel schedules, cargo bookings, container movements, and shipment milestones
- Liaise with shipping lines, freight forwarders, port operators, customs agents, and customers
Documentation, Tracking & Cost Monitoring
- Prepare and review bills of lading, shipping instructions, and commercial documents
- Track import and export shipments and proactively address delays and disruptions
- Monitor demurrage, detention, storage, and other logistics-related costs
- Support customs clearance and ensure required shipping documentation is complete
Performance Monitoring & Process Improvement
- Ensure shipment data and milestones are accurately maintained in TMS, ERP, or logistics systems
- Monitor logistics performance, service levels, costs, and key operational KPIs
- Prepare shipment reports, operational dashboards, and management updates
- Identify opportunities to improve freight efficiency and reduce costs
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience in ocean freight, port logistics, shipping, or freight forwarding
- Experience working with shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, or port-related service providers
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or Transportation
Essential Skills
- Strong understanding of ocean freight processes, container operations, and shipping documentation
- Familiarity with bills of lading, vessel schedules, Incoterms, and customs procedures
- Experience with TMS, ERP, freight-management, or logistics platforms
- Strong organizational, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Comfortable working with international and distributed teams in a remote environment
