Position Overview
This Principal Engineer – Vertical Transportation role is responsible for developing vertical transportation design concepts, including calculating the number, size, and speed of lifts for a wide variety of building types. You will prepare design stage reports, drawings, and technical specifications, participate in client and design team meetings, coordinate with other discipline engineers, and liaise with Local Authority Departments and VT suppliers to ensure design intent is properly implemented at every project stage.

Key Responsibilities
Design Development & Technical Delivery
- Develop vertical transportation design concepts, including calculation of lift number, size, and speed
- Produce efficient VT solutions for clients across a wide variety of building types
- Prepare design stage reports, drawings, and technical specifications
- Utilize advanced lift traffic design software (Elevate), CAD, BIM, Revit, and Microsoft Office
Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Produce technical reports to illustrate design to clients and their representatives
- Attend and coordinate meetings with the project design team, VT suppliers, and specialist subcontractors
- Participate in design review/clarification meetings, workshops, and client presentations
- Liaise with VT suppliers to ensure adherence to standards and scope of works
Regulatory & Discipline Coordination
- Liaise and coordinate with all applicable Local Authority Departments and stakeholders for approvals
- Coordinate with other discipline engineers (Architectural, Structural, Telecoms, IT, Mechanical, Electrical)
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Degree in lift and escalator engineering or electrical/mechanical engineering
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the lift and escalator industry
- Demonstrable expertise in lift traffic simulation and lift/escalator system design
- Extensive experience designing VT systems for various building types
- Prior experience in vertical transportation consultancy roles
Essential Skills
- Fully conversant with the EN 81 suite of codes; working knowledge of ASME series of codes
- Thorough understanding of local Middle East building codes
- Strong knowledge of VT codes, standards, and local building regulations
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and project reviews
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent written and spoken English, with effective client communication skills
