Position Overview
This Field Protection Engineer role focuses on testing and commissioning of Protection and Automation systems for Siemens projects, including preparation of SAT/FAT protocols and technical documentation. You will conduct Pre-FAT/FAT activities with customers for protection panels, prepare commissioning procedures including method statements and work permits, support product feedback and continuous improvement, deliver technical presentations to stakeholders, and perform fault analysis and root cause investigations on protection systems.

Key Responsibilities
Testing & Commissioning
- Testing and commissioning of Protection and Automation systems for Siemens projects
- Preparation of SAT/FAT protocols and technical documentation
- Conducting Pre-FAT/FAT activities with customers for protection panels (AVR, LIBBP, HIBBP, TIP, etc.)
- Preparing commissioning procedures including method statements, work permits, and testing protocols
Technical Support & Stakeholder Engagement
- Supporting product feedback, approvals, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Delivering technical presentations to customers and stakeholders
- Performing fault analysis and root cause investigations on protection systems
Protection & Automation Systems Expertise
- Working hands-on with Siemens protection platforms including SIPROTEC 4, SIPROTEC 5, and Reyrolle
- Applying knowledge of Power Quality and Substation Automation systems
- Working with IEC 61850 communication, GOOSE applications, and relay configuration tools
- Creating control logic (BCPU/BCU) and managing configuration files (SCD/ICD/CID)
Advanced Testing & HV Protection
- Operating OMICRON test equipment and Test Universe (TU 4.20 or higher)
- Using testing modules including Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, State Sequencer, Ramping, Transplay, and OCC files
- Working with HV transmission protection schemes: Line Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Main & Backup, and Busbar Protection (Low/High Impedance)
- Performing stability testing for line differential protection using CMGPS kits
- Testing transformer, shunt reactor, and series reactor differential protection
- Applying familiarity with digital substation technologies such as Process Bus and RTU integration
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Electrical & Communication Engineering
Experience Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in Protection & Automation commissioning
- Experience in multicultural project environments
- Experience in substation protection systems in the Middle East or international markets is a strong advantage
