Position Overview
The Technical Support Engineer role supports BYD’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects in the UAE from installation through commissioning, testing, and post-COD maintenance. You’ll work on PCS, BMS, battery racks, and MV skid components, ensuring compliance with electrical safety regulations while diagnosing and resolving technical faults across electrical and control systems. This position calls for strong site execution capability, technical documentation skills, and close coordination with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Work on-site installation of BESS components (PCS, BMS, battery racks, MV skid, etc.)
- Perform system commissioning, testing, and debugging activities to ensure COD readiness
- Diagnose and resolve technical faults across electrical and control systems during commissioning and operation
Operations & Preventive Maintenance
- Perform routine operation, inspection, and preventive maintenance activities post-COD
- Develop and implement annual maintenance plans in coordination with the team and customer requirements
- Implement system modifications and corrective actions based on client or project requirements
Safety & Documentation
- Ensure all activities comply with site safety procedures and electrical safety regulations
- Prepare detailed technical reports, commissioning records, and maintenance documentation
- Adhere strictly to HSE policies and authorized electrical safety standards
Stakeholder Coordination & Support
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders to address technical issues efficiently
- Support spare parts planning, inventory control, and warehouse management
- Collaborate across teams to ensure integrated, timely project delivery
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in power systems, renewable energy (PV/wind), or energy storage projects
- Preferred: hands-on experience with RMU, medium voltage switchgear, and MV skid systems
- Experience in large-scale BESS commissioning and maintenance is highly preferred
Essential Skills
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, protection systems, and testing equipment
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN, and SCADA integration
- Good knowledge of electrical safety regulations and standards; valid safety certification (e.g., LOTO) preferred
- Good command of English for technical documentation and communication
- Ability to work in harsh site conditions and adapt to UAE climate
