Key Responsibilities
Detailed Mechanical Design — HVAC, Fire Protection, Public Health & BMS
- Prepare and develop detailed mechanical design drawings across all mechanical engineering disciplines applicable to the project — including HVAC system design (air handling units, FCUs, ductwork, chilled water pipework), Public Health plumbing and drainage systems, fire protection systems (sprinklers, fire hose reels, suppression), BMS integration points, gas distribution systems, irrigation networks, and swimming pool mechanical engineering
- Use HAP software for HVAC load calculations and system sizing — ensuring that cooling and heating loads are correctly calculated for each building type, occupancy profile, and climate condition applicable to Dubai-based project designs, and that selected HVAC equipment is correctly sized for the design load with appropriate redundancy and energy efficiency considerations
- Produce Revit MEP models and AutoCAD detailed design drawings to the standard required for Dubai authority submission, tender, and construction issue — maintaining coordination with structural and architectural models to ensure all mechanical services routes, equipment spaces, and connection points are correctly integrated and clash-free
- Prepare technical specifications, mechanical schedules, and design development reports — producing clearly written, technically accurate documents that define the quality, performance, and installation requirements for all mechanical engineering systems included in the project design
Dubai Authority Submissions, NOCs & Regulatory Compliance
- Support the project submittals and No Objection Certificate (NOC) process with all relevant Dubai regulatory authorities — including Dubai Municipality (DM), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Civil Defense, Trakhees, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), and Dubai Development Authority (DDA) — coordinating submission packages, tracking review status, and managing response to authority comments
- Ensure that all mechanical engineering designs meet the statutory and regulatory requirements of applicable Dubai authority codes, standards, and guidelines — including Dubai Green Building Regulations, DEWA energy efficiency requirements, Dubai Civil Defense fire system codes, and any other authority-specific technical standards applicable to the project type and location
- Respond to authority review comments professionally and promptly — preparing technically accurate, clearly reasoned responses that address authority concerns effectively and support the efficient approval of project submissions without unnecessary delays to the project programme
- Provide planning, leadership, and technical direction for complex multi-authority approval processes — managing simultaneous submissions to multiple Dubai authorities, tracking the progress and status of each submission, and coordinating internally to ensure response packages are prepared and submitted within required timeframes
Project Coordination, Team Leadership & Client Communication
- Coordinate mechanical engineering design work with other members of the multidisciplinary project team — including structural, civil, architecture, electrical, public health, fire, and IT/AV engineers — ensuring that mechanical systems are correctly integrated with all other building systems and that coordination issues are identified and resolved proactively before reaching construction stage
- Work closely with and monitor the performance of junior engineers assigned to the project — providing technical guidance, reviewing their design work, and ensuring that the quality and accuracy of all engineer-produced deliverables meets SSH Design’s standards before release to clients or authorities
- Ensure that all service and project work is carried out within agreed delivery deadlines and within approved project budgets — raising any programme or resource concerns to the Design Division lead promptly and coordinating solutions that protect project delivery commitments
- Keep senior design team members informed of important design decisions, emerging technical challenges, and any situations where clarification of project scope or client objectives is required — maintaining the internal communication that enables effective project management and informed senior oversight
Sustainable Design & Contract Management
- Apply sustainable design principles across all mechanical engineering system selections and design decisions — incorporating energy-efficient HVAC strategies, water conservation measures in Public Health and Irrigation design, and renewable energy integration approaches that contribute to green building certification objectives and Dubai’s sustainability regulatory requirements
- Understand the contract documents, project scope of services, and deliverable requirements for each assigned project — ensuring that design work and documentation output are aligned with contractual obligations, and that any scope changes or additional design requirements are identified, documented, and communicated to senior management for formal scope management
- Attend and contribute to team meetings and client project meetings — presenting design progress, technical findings, and authority submission status clearly and professionally, and representing SSH Design’s Design Division competently in all client and stakeholder interactions

Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (BEng) or Master’s Degree in Engineering (MEng) — a relevant mechanical, building services, or MEP engineering degree from a recognised accredited university; this educational qualification is mandatory for this role
- Membership of a recognised professional engineering body — CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers), IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers), or ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) — is desirable and viewed positively, though not an absolute requirement for appointment
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience working within an engineering consultancy in the UAE, preferably in Dubai — with a demonstrated track record of delivering mechanical design projects from concept through to detailed design and construction documentation in the UAE market
