Position Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer — Data Centre Segment at Eaton Dubai is a senior technical leadership role at the forefront of the UAE’s booming data centre infrastructure sector. You will lead the design of data centre cooling solutions using the full Eaton portfolio and third-party equipment — covering whitespace design, chiller plants, AHUs, fan wall units, and facility water systems. You will implement hot/cold aisle containment strategies, evaluate direct-to-chip liquid cooling and CDU technologies, conduct and support CFD analysis to optimise airflow and thermal performance, ensure PUE targets are met, and act as a trusted technical expert for clients, engineering consultants, and contractors across the region. This role combines deep mechanical and building services engineering expertise with client-facing technical authority in one of the world’s fastest-growing engineering markets.

Why This Role Matters: As Senior Mechanical Engineer for Eaton’s Data Centre Segment in Dubai, you are engineering the cooling systems that keep the UAE’s most critical digital infrastructure alive and running. Hyperscale data centres cannot function without precisely designed, highly efficient cooling — and your expertise in chilled water systems, CFD, liquid cooling, and BMS is what turns a data centre design concept into an operational facility that meets PUE targets, satisfies ASHRAE compliance, and delivers the reliability that cloud providers, enterprises, and governments depend on. You will drive cooling innovation at Eaton — evaluating direct-to-chip liquid cooling, assessing CDU technologies, and defining the next generation of thermal management strategies for the Middle East’s most ambitious data centre projects.

Key Responsibilities

Data Centre Cooling Design & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the design and development of innovative data centre cooling solutions using the full Eaton portfolio and carefully evaluated third-party equipment — applying process engineering and continuous improvement techniques throughout
  • Provide technical engineering leadership in mechanical design — including whitespace design, chiller plant design, Air Handling Units (AHUs), fan wall units, and facility water systems for hyperscale and enterprise projects
  • Develop and implement advanced technical cooling strategies — including hot and cold aisle containment, air cooling, liquid cooling, and hybrid systems — using validated engineering principles and continuous monitoring systems
  • Research, evaluate, and design solutions using emerging technologies — particularly direct-to-chip liquid cooling and Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs) — positioning Eaton at the forefront of next-generation thermal management

CFD Analysis & PUE Optimisation

  • Conduct and support Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to optimise airflow patterns and thermal performance within data centre whitespace and infrastructure environments
  • Ensure that all data centre cooling designs meet or exceed PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) targets — applying engineering rigour and simulation validation to thermal and airflow efficiency optimisation
  • Use design and simulation tools including AutoCAD, Revit, and CFD software to produce technically accurate, well-documented designs that can be reviewed, approved, and built with confidence
  • Stay current with advances in data centre thermal management — tracking emerging cooling technologies, materials, and techniques that can improve PUE, reduce water usage, and enhance system resilience

Technical Standards, Documentation & Compliance

  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, engineering specifications, and technical reports — ensuring all data centre cooling designs comply with relevant industry standards including ASHRAE, CIBSE, and OCP
  • Ensure deep technical knowledge of data centre power and cooling architectures is applied consistently — covering HVAC, chilled water systems, pumps, motors, and BMS (Building Management Systems) controls
  • Review and interpret customer specifications rigorously — ensuring Eaton’s technical proposals accurately address client requirements, performance expectations, and contractual deliverables
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Business teams to ensure technical quality in quotations — contributing detailed engineering input that supports competitive, technically credible commercial proposals

Client Engagement & Subject Matter Expertise

  • Act as a subject matter expert in client-facing meetings — building trusted, long-term technical relationships with engineering consultants, MEP contractors, and end-user data centre clients across the UAE and wider MENA region
  • Promote Eaton’s data centre cooling solutions credibly and knowledgeably — providing technical guidance, competitive positioning, and solution recommendations that address each client’s specific project challenges
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including commercial, project management, and commissioning teams — to ensure successful project execution and a smooth transition from design to commissioning and handover
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in English in all technical and client-facing interactions — presentations, technical reports, specification reviews, and engineering workshops

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related discipline — required for this senior data centre engineering role at Eaton Dubai
  • Chartered Engineer status or active, demonstrable progression towards chartership (IMechE, CIBSE, or equivalent) is highly desirable and actively supported by Eaton

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 to 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience — with at least 3 to 5 years specifically focused on data centre or mission-critical facility projects
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering data centre cooling infrastructure — including chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, AHUs, hot/cold aisle containment, and liquid cooling systems
  • UAE or Middle East data centre engineering experience is a strong advantage — familiarity with regional project delivery, client expectations, and local regulatory requirements

Technical Skills

  • Deep knowledge of data centre power and cooling architectures — HVAC, chilled water, pumps, motors, AHUs, fan walls, BMS controls — applied to hyperscale and enterprise data centre environments
  • Experience with CFD tools for airflow and thermal analysis in data centre environments — highly desirable and directly applicable to PUE optimisation and whitespace design validation
  • Experience with design tools including AutoCAD and Revit — for mechanical systems design, documentation, and coordination in multi-disciplinary data centre projects
  • Strong working knowledge of ASHRAE, CIBSE, and OCP standards — applied to data centre thermal management, environmental compliance, and design specification development
  • Fluent written and spoken English — required for all client communication, technical documentation, and cross-functional team collaboration
