Position Overview

This Motorman role involves operating and maintaining main propulsion engines and machinery onboard vessels, performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and rectifying engine and machinery breakdowns promptly, maintaining accurate engine and machinery logbooks, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, assisting in mooring/unmooring, bunkering and cargo operations, and supporting the Chief Engineer with inventory tracking and equipment repair.

Key Responsibilities

Engine & Machinery Operation

  • Operate and maintain the main propulsion engines and machinery on board the vessels
  • Perform routine inspections and plan preventive maintenance on marine engines and auxiliary machinery
  • Troubleshoot and rectify engine and machinery breakdowns promptly to ensure safe, efficient operation

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain engine and machinery logbooks accurately reflecting maintenance activities and engine performance
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards

Vessel Operations Support

  • Assist in the mooring and unmooring of vessels, bunkering operations and loading/discharging of cargo
  • Maintain cleanliness of the engine room and machinery spaces

Inventory & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the Chief Engineer in tracking engine room inventory and equipment repair
  • Identify opportunities for engine room efficiency improvements

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Preparatory School education

Certification Requirements

  • Valid STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers)

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience as a Motorman in the maritime industry

Essential Skills

  • Excellent English; Arabic is an added advantage
  • Strong understanding of marine engineering principles
  • Hands-on experience in engine maintenance and repair
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability
  • Ability to design and deliver training programs, and act as a coach and mentor to employees
  • Problem solving and attention to detail
