This technically demanding senior role requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in Medium Voltage network design and rehabilitation, strong proficiency in ETAP and DigSilent PowerFactory for power system studies, and familiarity with GCC utility standards including DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, and EWEC — with preferred experience on airport electrical infrastructure projects.
About This Senior MV Design Engineering Opportunity
Industry: Power Distribution, Infrastructure, and Utilities — consultancy, utility companies, or EPC organisations delivering large-scale UAE power infrastructure
Project Types: Airport electrical infrastructure, utility distribution networks, transportation systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities, industrial developments, and large-scale infrastructure projects
Technical Scope: MV substations, 11kV–33kV distribution networks, switchgear systems, transformers, SCADA architecture, protection coordination, and power system studies
UAE Standards: DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, EWEC — deep familiarity with GCC utility authority requirements for MV distribution network design and approvals
Why This Senior MV Design Engineer Role Stands Out
Full MV Design Leadership: Own the complete Medium Voltage design lifecycle — from load flow studies and short-circuit analysis through substation layout, cable routing, and protection coordination
ETAP & DigSilent PowerFactory: Apply both of the industry’s most valued power system analysis tools — ETAP and DigSilent PowerFactory — to real utility infrastructure projects in Dubai
GCC Utility Authority Expertise: DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, and EWEC standards — the most in-demand regulatory knowledge for UAE electrical engineers in 2026
Airport Infrastructure Preference: Airport electrical infrastructure project experience — one of the most technically complex and commercially prestigious MV design environments
Position Overview
This Senior Medium Voltage Design Engineer in Dubai leads the design and rehabilitation of Medium Voltage electrical distribution systems across utility infrastructure and large-scale project environments, prepares load flow studies, short-circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and protection coordination studies, develops single-line diagrams, cable routing plans, substation layouts, and detailed design packages, designs MV substations, distribution networks, switchgear systems, transformers, and associated electrical infrastructure, reviews contractor submissions and shop drawings, coordinates with utility authorities for technical approvals, supports network upgrade and rehabilitation project planning and implementation, conducts site inspections and technical audits, participates in tender evaluations, and ensures compliance with international standards and local utility regulations across all delivered engineering work.
Why This Role Matters: As Senior Medium Voltage Design Engineer in Dubai, you are the technical authority behind the power distribution infrastructure that keeps airports operational, water treatment plants running, transportation networks energised, and industrial developments functioning at scale. Every load flow study you validate, every protection coordination scheme you design, and every 33kV substation layout you sign off determines whether the critical infrastructure of one of the world’s most ambitious cities receives reliable, safe, and authority-compliant electrical power — with DEWA, ADDC, and SEWA standards applied with the precision that senior UAE utility infrastructure projects demand.
Key Responsibilities
Medium Voltage System Design & Power System Studies
- Lead the design and rehabilitation of Medium Voltage (MV) electrical distribution systems across 11kV, 13.8kV, 22kV, and 33kV voltage levels — from initial concept through detailed design and construction documentation
- Prepare comprehensive load flow studies, short-circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and protection coordination studies using ETAP and DigSilent PowerFactory
- Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), cable routing plans, substation layouts, and complete detailed design packages to international standards and GCC utility requirements
- Design MV substations, distribution networks, switchgear systems, power transformers, and associated electrical infrastructure — ensuring technical rigour and constructability at every design stage
Protection, Relay Coordination & Cable Design
- Develop protection coordination studies and relay setting calculations — ensuring selective protection schemes that minimise fault impact across the MV distribution network
- Perform detailed cable sizing and routing design — selecting appropriate cable types, cross-sections, installation methods, and thermal ratings for MV network conditions
- Design and review protection and control system architectures — integrating with SCADA systems where required for utility-grade monitoring and remote control capability
Contractor Review, Authority Coordination & Site Activities
- Review contractor submissions, technical specifications, and shop drawings — providing detailed engineering comments and approval recommendations to the project management team
- Coordinate with utility authorities — DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, EWEC — and project stakeholders to obtain technical approvals and NOCs for MV distribution design submissions
- Support planning and implementation of network upgrade, expansion, and rehabilitation projects — contributing technical expertise from feasibility through detailed design and site completion
- Conduct site inspections, technical audits, and engineering assessments — verifying that MV installation work complies with approved designs, standards, and utility authority requirements
- Participate in tender evaluations and provide technical recommendations on MV distribution system solutions, contractor capabilities, and design alternatives
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering qualification
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Medium Voltage network design and rehabilitation — with demonstrated delivery of MV distribution projects at consultancy, utility company, or EPC organisation level
- Proven background in airport infrastructure, utility distribution networks, transportation systems, industrial developments, or large-scale infrastructure projects
- Advanced proficiency in ETAP for load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies
- Proficiency in DigSilent PowerFactory for power system modelling and analysis
- Strong AutoCAD skills for MV single-line diagram and substation layout production
- Knowledge of international electrical engineering standards applicable to MV distribution design
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on airport electrical infrastructure projects — a strong advantage given the technical complexity and authority approval requirements
- Knowledge of GCC utility authority standards — DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, EWEC — and experience coordinating design approvals with UAE utility authorities
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification — a significant professional advantage
- Previous Middle East project experience — highly preferred for immediate effectiveness in the UAE utility and infrastructure environment
