Position Overview

The Senior Welding Engineer in Abu Dhabi is a technically demanding senior specialist role covering the full spectrum of welding technology, materials science, and NDT requirements across offshore and onshore oil & gas projects. You will provide specialized technical support to project teams during engineering, procurement, and execution phases; investigate and resolve welding and NDT-related challenges during fabrication and installation; coordinate welding procedure implementation and qualification; support pipeline welding operations including mechanized and manual processes; monitor welding performance and repair trends; drive welding automation and technology advancement; and contribute to the development of welding personnel through training, qualification, and competency assessment activities — all in alignment with international welding codes including ASME, AWS, DNV, API, and BS standards.

Why This Role Matters: As Senior Welding Engineer in Abu Dhabi’s oil & gas sector, your technical expertise directly determines the integrity, safety, and reliability of offshore platforms, onshore pipelines, and structural fabrications that form the backbone of the UAE’s energy infrastructure. Your welding procedure approvals, NDT coordination, and repair reduction initiatives protect billions of dollars of assets and, most critically, the safety of every person who works on the facilities your welding specifications govern.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support — Welding, Materials & NDT

  • Provide specialized technical support and clarification on welding, materials, and NDT requirements to project teams during engineering, procurement, and execution phases — ensuring full alignment with approved specifications, project requirements, and applicable international welding standards
  • Investigate and resolve welding, materials, and NDT-related technical challenges during fabrication and installation activities — providing timely, accurate technical guidance that minimizes operational disruptions and maintains welding quality throughout project execution
  • Coordinate welding equipment, consumable, qualification, and technical resource requirements — collaborating with stakeholders to support operational readiness, minimize execution risks, and ensure uninterrupted offshore and onshore welding activities

Welding Procedure Development & Implementation

  • Coordinate the implementation of approved welding procedures, qualification requirements, and engineering recommendations — supporting project readiness, operational compliance, and successful execution across all fabrication and installation activities
  • Develop welding procedures for mechanized welding applications — including pipeline welding procedures for offshore and onshore mechanized systems — ensuring compliance with AWS, ASME, DNV, API, and project-specific welding requirements
  • Provide technical support on weldability considerations, production improvement initiatives, and repair reduction measures — applying best practices to optimize welding performance, reduce rework, and improve overall productivity

Offshore & Onshore Pipeline & Structural Welding Support

  • Provide hands-on technical support to offshore and onshore welding operations — covering pipeline welding (mechanized and manual), structural welding, and piping welding across a range of materials used in the oil & gas industry
  • Monitor welding performance, repair trends, and operational issues during fabrication and installation — recommending technical solutions and improvement actions to enhance welding quality, productivity, and execution efficiency
  • Apply up-to-date knowledge of ECA (Engineering Critical Assessment) and AUT (Automated Ultrasonic Testing) for pipeline weld inspection — supporting the implementation of advanced inspection methodologies that improve pipeline integrity and reduce conservative acceptance criteria
