Position Overview

The Graduate Mechanical Engineer at AECOM Abu Dhabi joins a dynamic engineering team to assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems across AECOM’s diverse infrastructure and building project portfolio. Working alongside experienced senior engineers and cross-functional project teams, this graduate will gain hands-on exposure to CAD design, technical analysis, simulations, technical documentation, design reviews and testing and validation activities — building the engineering foundations and professional skills needed for a long-term career in mechanical engineering at a world-class infrastructure consultancy.

 Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & CAD Development

  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems using CAD software and industry-standard engineering tools under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation for mechanical engineering projects in compliance with AECOM and client standards.
  • Maintain organized project files and technical documentation — ensuring accuracy, traceability and compliance with company quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Technical Analysis & Simulation

  • Conduct technical analysis and engineering simulations to evaluate mechanical designs — assessing structural integrity, thermal performance, fluid dynamics and other key mechanical parameters.
  • Perform calculations and data analysis related to mechanical systems and components — supporting evidence-based engineering decision-making across project teams.
  • Assist in testing and validation activities to ensure all designs meet performance requirements, client specifications and applicable engineering standards before project delivery.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Support senior engineers in troubleshooting mechanical design issues and implementing technically sound, cost-effective solutions across infrastructure and building projects.
  • Participate in design reviews — providing analytical insights and fresh perspectives to improve product quality, system efficiency and project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on schedule and consistently meet technical specifications and client requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing engineering processes and identifying optimization opportunities — from design efficiency to documentation quality.

Minimum Requirements

Educational & Eligibility Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university — mandatory educational requirement for this AECOM Graduate Program position.
  • Candidates must be recent 2025 or 2026 graduates to be eligible for AECOM’s Graduate Program in Abu Dhabi — earlier graduates are not eligible.
  • Successful applicants must have achieved a minimum GPA of 2.8 (or equivalent international academic standard) — this is a firm minimum threshold.
  • UAE National status with a valid family book (Khulasat Al-Qaid) — mandatory as part of AECOM’s Emiratisation commitment and UAE labour law compliance.
