Position Overview
The Design Engineer at NIMR Abu Dhabi is a technically demanding and strategically important mechanical engineering role at the heart of the company’s armored vehicle design function. You will design innovative automotive chassis, structural, and body systems for NIMR’s wheeled armored military vehicles — creating 3D model concepts using CREO for discussion and approval, producing accurate 2D production drawings from approved 3D models, developing DFMEA and DVP&R documentation, managing drawing mark-ups and stack analysis, applying GD&T standards, and supporting the release of all technical documentation throughout the full engineering design lifecycle — from concept through to production release.
Why This Role Matters: As Design Engineer at NIMR Abu Dhabi, your engineering drawings and chassis designs become the foundation of combat-proven armored vehicles that protect military personnel in the field. Every 3D concept you model in CREO, every 2D production drawing you release, every DFMEA analysis you complete, and every GD&T tolerance you define contributes directly to the safety, performance, and reliability of NIMR’s armored vehicle platforms — making this one of the most purposeful and technically rewarding engineering roles in the UAE defense industry.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Documentation & Design Release Management
- Provide assistance in managing the release of all technical documentation across the full design lifecycle — including engineering drawings, Design Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (DFMEA), and Design Validation and Planning Reports (DVP&R) — ensuring all releases are accurate, complete, and approved before issue
- Coordinate the technical documentation release process with cross-functional engineering teams — maintaining version control, change management records, and documentation traceability throughout all design phases
- Ensure that all released documentation meets NIMR’s engineering standards, defense industry requirements, and applicable international automotive engineering specifications
3D Concept Modeling — CREO
- Create detailed and innovative 3D model concepts for automotive chassis, structural, and body systems using CREO parametric design software — developing models for design team discussion, engineering review, and formal management approval
- Iterate on 3D model designs based on engineering review feedback, structural analysis results, manufacturability assessments, and vehicle performance requirements — refining designs to achieve the optimal balance of performance, weight, and producibility
- Utilize CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) systems to support structural analysis, load case evaluations, and design optimization activities in coordination with the analytical engineering team
2D Production Drawing Development
- Create accurate, detailed 2D engineering drawings of all approved 3D models — producing complete production-ready drawings that convey all necessary dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and manufacturing process requirements for NIMR’s production team
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards rigorously and consistently across all component and assembly drawings — ensuring all tolerance specifications are achievable in production and aligned with functional performance requirements
- Develop comprehensive drawing mark-ups, stack analysis, and component drawings — verifying dimensional compliance and tolerance stack-up across all assemblies to ensure correct fit, form, and function through the full vehicle build
Automotive Chassis & Structural Design Innovation
- Design innovative automotive chassis systems for NIMR’s wheeled armored military vehicle platforms — applying automotive engineering principles, military vehicle standards, and structural design best practices to produce robust, combat-proven solutions
- Develop structural and body system designs that meet NIMR’s performance, ballistic protection, weight, and producibility requirements — supporting the full design process from initial concept through detailed design, validation, and production release
- Support design reviews, engineering change management, and continuous improvement of vehicle systems throughout the product lifecycle — bringing creative engineering thinking and rigorous analytical discipline to every design challenge
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline — with strong academic grounding in automotive, structural, or mechanical design fundamentals
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in automotive design or within a relevant industry — covering all phases of the design process from initial idea conception through detailed design to production release
- Experience in the automotive, defense vehicle, heavy equipment, or aerospace engineering sectors with direct design engineering responsibility across chassis, structural, or mechanical systems
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in CREO (PTC Creo Parametric) for 3D model creation and parametric design — essential for all design work at NIMR
- Experience with CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) systems for structural analysis, FEA, and design validation activities
- Strong knowledge and practical application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards in production engineering drawings
- Proficiency in developing DFMEA and DVP&R documentation in accordance with AIAG or equivalent automotive engineering standards
- Experience with automated drafting systems, drawing mark-up procedures, and dimensional stack analysis for complex mechanical assemblies
