Position Overview
The Bridge Engineer at Waagner Biro Bridge Services, Al Ain is a hands-on, site-based civil engineering role supporting the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of bridge structures across the Al Ain region of Abu Dhabi. You will assist in supervising site activities, monitoring construction quality and compliance, coordinating with project teams, subcontractors, and consultants, and ensuring all bridge works are carried out in accordance with project specifications, engineering drawings, safety standards, and client requirements — all within the operational framework of one of the UAE’s most experienced specialist bridge engineering companies.
This role is well-suited to a civil engineer with 2–3 years of direct UAE bridge construction or maintenance experience who is ready to take on increasing site responsibility within a specialist bridge engineering environment. You will review construction drawings, prepare site reports and inspection requests, support quality control activities, coordinate across project stakeholders, and provide technical support to the project team — developing your bridge engineering skills and professional reputation within a company whose 50-year track record in bridge and infrastructure engineering across Dubai and the UAE is a genuinely significant professional credential on any CV.
Why Bridge Engineer Roles at Waagner Biro in Al Ain Matter: Al Ain’s road infrastructure — including its bridges and elevated structures — supports one of Abu Dhabi’s most important inland cities, linking communities, enabling commerce, and supporting the movement of people and goods across the Eastern Region. The Bridge Engineer who ensures these structures are built correctly, maintained properly, and rehabilitated when required is contributing directly to the safety and functionality of infrastructure that thousands of people depend on every day. At Waagner Biro, with 50 years of bridge engineering excellence behind the company name, that contribution is made with the backing of the region’s most experienced bridge engineering specialists.
Key Responsibilities
Bridge Construction, Maintenance & Rehabilitation
- Assist in the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of bridge structures — supporting the delivery of Waagner Biro’s bridge project portfolio in Al Ain by providing on-site technical assistance, monitoring construction progress, and ensuring all works are executed to the required engineering standard and in compliance with approved project documentation
- Monitor daily site activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications — maintaining a continuous, active presence on active bridge construction and maintenance sites, verifying that all work is carried out in strict accordance with the approved construction drawings, method statements, material specifications, and quality requirements
- Review construction drawings and identify potential technical issues — applying civil and bridge engineering knowledge to analyse construction drawings and specifications before and during site execution, identifying discrepancies, ambiguities, or potential constructability issues and raising them with the project team before they affect site progress or quality
- Assist in planning and scheduling project activities to meet project deadlines — contributing site-level knowledge of construction progress, resource availability, and sequencing constraints to support the project team’s planning and look-ahead scheduling activities
Quality Control, Inspections & Site Reporting
- Support quality control and inspection activities related to bridge works — participating in the inspection and test plan (ITP) process, witnessing critical construction activities, measuring and checking as-built dimensions against approved drawings, and preparing inspection request documentation for consultant and client review and approval
- Prepare site reports, inspection requests, progress updates, and technical documentation — maintaining the complete, accurate, and timely project site records that support contractor quality management requirements, consultant review processes, and client reporting obligations throughout the bridge project lifecycle
- Participate in site inspections and client/consultant meetings — attending inspection walkovers, progress meetings, and technical meetings with clients and consultant engineers, contributing site-level technical information and following up on all inspection comments, instructions, and actions arising from these engagements
- Ensure compliance with project safety and environmental requirements — actively monitoring site activities for compliance with the project’s health, safety, and environmental management plan, reporting near-misses and unsafe conditions promptly, and contributing to a safety-first culture across all Waagner Biro bridge project sites
Coordination, Stakeholder Management & Technical Support
- Coordinate with site supervisors, subcontractors, consultants, and project stakeholders — managing day-to-day communication and coordination between all parties involved in bridge construction and maintenance activities, ensuring information flows efficiently, technical queries are resolved promptly, and all parties have the information they need to progress their work without unnecessary delays
- Provide technical support to the project team during construction and maintenance operations — applying bridge engineering knowledge and construction experience to assist site supervisors, subcontractors, and specialist trades in resolving technical questions, understanding specification requirements, and implementing approved construction methods correctly
- Coordinate effectively across the project team to ensure works are carried out in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and client requirements — maintaining the cross-stakeholder alignment that keeps all parties working toward the same quality, programme, and compliance objectives throughout the bridge project lifecycle
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution — the mandatory academic qualification for this Bridge Engineer role; candidates without a Civil Engineering degree qualification will not be considered
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in bridge construction and/or bridge maintenance projects in the UAE — specifically within the UAE, not overseas; candidates must have direct, hands-on site experience on UAE bridge or infrastructure projects to meet this requirement
- Good understanding of bridge structures, construction methods, and maintenance practices — including knowledge of concrete bridges, steel structures, bearings, expansion joints, waterproofing, and the specific maintenance and rehabilitation techniques applicable to bridge infrastructure in the UAE climate and environment
- UAE Driving Licence (Mandatory) — this is a non-negotiable operational requirement; candidates without a valid UAE driving licence will not be considered regardless of other qualifications
- Own vehicle available for project-related travel (Mandatory) — required for travel between Al Ain project sites; this is a firm requirement and candidates who cannot meet it are not suitable for this position
- Willingness to work in Al Ain and travel to project sites as required — the role is site-based in the Al Ain region of Abu Dhabi Emirate and requires full commitment to on-site presence across active bridge project locations
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on road and bridge projects for UAE government authorities or major infrastructure contractors — demonstrating familiarity with the specific quality, documentation, inspection, and authority approval requirements of UAE government infrastructure programmes
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and site inspection processes — including ITP management, inspection request preparation, non-conformance reporting, and consultant/client approval workflows on UAE construction projects
- Knowledge of UAE construction standards, safety regulations, and best practices — including familiarity with Abu Dhabi authority requirements, standard specifications, and health and safety regulations applicable to bridge construction and maintenance works
