Position Overview
The Master Cutter and Tailor at ÚCHÈ Dubai is one of the most technically demanding and creatively rewarding garment construction roles available in Dubai’s fashion scene. You will be the skilled hands through which ÚCHÈ’s conceptual, gender-fluid designs become physical reality — taking precise measurements, drafting and adjusting patterns, cutting fabrics with precision, and constructing high-quality, limited-edition garments to the luxury standard that ÚCHÈ’s international reputation demands. Each garment you create is not a production unit — it is a piece from a limited-edition collection designed to be both a fashion statement and a lasting expression of original creative vision.
This role requires a uniquely complete set of tailoring capabilities — pattern drafting from scratch, bespoke and ready-to-wear construction, hand and machine sewing at luxury quality level, fitting and alteration expertise across diverse body types, and the ability to work with delicate, structured, and sustainable textiles — combined with genuine aesthetic sensitivity to gender-fluid, conceptual design and the collaborative professional character to work closely with a founder-designer in a creative, high-standards environment. If you are a Master Tailor with 10+ years of high-end experience currently based in Dubai, ÚCHÈ is ready to meet you.
Why This Master Cutter and Tailor Role at ÚCHÈ Is Exceptional: Most tailoring roles in Dubai involve production work, alterations, or bespoke men’s suiting for established houses — technically valuable, but rarely creatively expansive. Working as the Master Cutter and Tailor for ÚCHÈ is qualitatively different: you are collaborating directly with a visionary founder-designer on limited-edition gender-fluid collections that challenge conventional garment construction, push the boundaries of what fabrics and silhouettes can express, and are featured in international fashion publications. Your pattern cutting and construction decisions directly shape how the world sees ÚCHÈ’s creative ideas. That is an exceptionally rare professional opportunity for a Master Tailor in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
Pattern Drafting, Cutting & Garment Construction
- Take precise measurements and draft accurate patterns from scratch — developing original block patterns and adapted production patterns for ÚCHÈ’s conceptual, gender-fluid garment designs, adjusting and grading as required to achieve the exact silhouette and fit the designer’s creative vision demands across the collection’s size range
- Cut fabrics with precision and minimal waste — applying professional pattern placement, grain-line discipline, and cutting technique to both delicate and structured textile types, consistently achieving the clean, precise cut edges that luxury garment construction requires while supporting the brand’s commitment to sustainable fabric usage and minimal wastage
- Construct high-quality garments for limited-edition collections — sewing garments to luxury quality standards using both hand sewing and machine sewing techniques, applying the appropriate construction method — from fusing and interfacing through seam finishing, lining insertion, and hand-worked closures — to each garment type and fabric combination in the collection
- Manage sample development from first toile through approved bulk sample — producing, evaluating, and refining samples in close collaboration with the designer and production team, ensuring each sample accurately represents the design intent and meets the brand’s construction, fit, and finish standards before collection approval
Fittings, Alterations & Client Experience
- Conduct client fittings with professional precision and personal sensitivity — taking measurements, fitting garments across diverse body types, identifying all fit corrections required, and communicating clearly and warmly with clients throughout the fitting process to ensure they feel confident and well-served by the ÚCHÈ fitting experience
- Make fitting alterations and customisations — applying advanced alteration skills to adjust garment fit, proportion, and finish to each individual client’s body and preferences, ensuring that every ÚCHÈ garment fits the wearer with the precision and attention to detail that luxury ready-to-wear demands from bespoke-level construction quality
- Work across diverse body types and genders with equal technical skill and personal respect — understanding that ÚCHÈ’s gender-fluid design philosophy means the Master Cutter and Tailor must be equally expert at achieving great fit and construction quality across any body regardless of conventional gendered garment conventions
Materials, Sustainability & Workspace Management
- Work with diverse fabrics and materials including delicate, structured, and sustainable textiles — applying textile knowledge and handling expertise to work correctly with each material type, from sheer and bias-cut fabrics through heavy structured wovens and innovative sustainable textiles, applying the appropriate interfacing, handling, cutting, and construction techniques for each
- Maintain a well-organised, safe, and efficient workspace — managing the atelier environment with the professional discipline that luxury garment construction demands, maintaining clean, organised storage of patterns, fabrics, and work-in-progress garments and ensuring all tools and equipment are maintained to a professional working standard
- Demonstrate active commitment to sustainable practices in fabric usage, cutting, and production processes — applying zero-waste or minimal-waste cutting approaches wherever possible, using fabric off-cuts thoughtfully, and contributing proactively to ÚCHÈ’s sustainability commitments through the daily practices of the atelier
- Collaborate closely with the designer and production team — communicating clearly about construction challenges, technical requirements, timeline pressures, and creative questions, contributing constructive technical perspective to design development discussions, and maintaining the productive collaborative relationship that exceptional fashion creation requires between designer and master tailor
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a cutter and tailor in high-end or boutique fashion — this is an absolute minimum requirement; applications from candidates with less than 10 years of relevant high-end experience will not be considered regardless of other qualifications
- Formal training in fashion design, tailoring, or pattern making — from a recognised fashion school, atelier training programme, or tailoring institution; self-taught experience, however extensive, is not sufficient without formal training credentials for this role at ÚCHÈ’s level
- Strong expertise in pattern drafting, cutting, and garment construction — covering both bespoke and ready-to-wear tailoring, with the ability to draft original patterns from measurements without reliance on existing blocks for conceptual or non-standard silhouettes
- Proficiency in hand sewing, machine sewing, and finishing techniques — at the luxury quality level expected by high-end fashion brands; candidates must be able to produce hand-finished work of couture or near-couture standard including hand-stitched hems, pad-stitching, and fine hand-worked closures
- Experience with fittings, alterations, and customisation across diverse body types — with the technical expertise to identify and correct all aspects of garment fit including balance, ease, length, and proportion on a range of figure types and genders
- Familiarity with contemporary, gender-fluid design concepts and an eye for innovative silhouettes and details — genuine aesthetic appreciation for conceptual, boundary-pushing fashion is essential; candidates who are only comfortable with conventional gendered tailoring conventions are not suited to ÚCHÈ’s creative environment
- Currently based in Dubai — mandatory: ÚCHÈ will only consider applications from candidates already located in Dubai; no relocation support is provided and international applications will not be progressed
