Position Overview — Design Lead Electrical DC
As DC Lead (Tendering) — Design Lead Electrical DC at LNT Renewables in Sharjah, UAE, the successful candidate reviews and executes engineering activities covering Generation Estimates, Overall Plant Layout, DC SLD, Solar Module Selection, Inverter Sizing, SMB, Earthing Layouts, and Cable Sizing Calculations for Solar PV Power Plants. The role facilitates BIM 3D model development, coordinates inter-departmental checks across Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, and MEP, provides technical inputs to the tendering team, manages timely delivery of engineering drawings and documents, reviews design engineer and draughtsperson outputs, validates vendor deliverables, reviews BOQ submissions, evaluates vendors pre-award, inspects finalized vendor equipment, supports site execution teams, and plans and estimates man-hour requirements — covering the full engineering lifecycle from pre-bid through commissioning and warranty periods.
Why This Role Matters: As DC Lead (Tendering) at LNT Renewables in Sharjah, your technical judgement on Solar PV electrical design directly determines whether a bid is technically credible and commercially competitive — and whether a project, once won, can be built as designed. When your PVSYST generation estimate correctly accounts for the site-specific irradiation, temperature coefficient, and soiling loss factors that determine whether a power plant will actually hit its guaranteed annual energy yield, your inverter sizing and cable cross-section calculations are optimised to minimise DC losses without over-specifying conductor sizes that inflate the BOM cost unnecessarily, or your DC SLD correctly captures the string configuration, MPPT allocation, and protection requirements that the module and inverter manufacturers’ technical specifications actually demand — you are not drafting documents. You are building the engineering foundation that every downstream activity in the project depends on being correct before the first module is mounted on a racking structure. That engineering rigour, applied to every tender and every design package, is what separates a design lead from a design engineer in the Solar PV industry.
Key Responsibilities
Tendering Support, Pre-Bid Engineering & Technical Inputs
- Provide technical inputs and engineering insights to the tendering team — applying Solar PV electrical design expertise to ensure bid submissions are technically accurate, commercially competitive, and reflective of actual installation and equipment cost realities
- Execute pre-bid engineering activities covering Generation Estimates, Overall Plant Layout, DC SLD, Solar Module Selection, Inverter Sizing, SMB, Earthing Layouts, and Cable Sizing Calculations — producing reliable technical outputs that underpin accurate bid pricing and technical compliance
- Review BOQ submissions and provide technical clarifications to the contracts team — ensuring bill of quantities accurately reflect the design intent, equipment specifications, and installation scope required for each Solar PV project
- Perform pre-award evaluation of vendors with respect to technical specifications required by the client — forwarding validation documents to Supply Chain Management and inspecting finalized vendor equipment after submission of validation documents
Electrical DC Design, Engineering Drawings & Document Delivery
- Review and check engineering drawings produced by Design Engineers and Draughtspersons — validating design and sizing calculations for all electrical engineering equipment and obtaining necessary client approvals for engineering deliverables
- Ensure timely delivery of engineering drawings and documents aligned to the project schedule — managing engineering output timelines, estimating and planning man-hour requirements, and coordinating design team workloads across concurrent projects
- Check and approve deliverables including Cable Routing Layouts, Cable Tray Layouts, Earthing Layouts, and Lightning Protection Layouts — ensuring all electrical DC design outputs meet KONE engineering standards, national and international codes, and client specifications
- Facilitate BIM modellers in the development of BIM 3D Models for Solar PV Power Plants — coordinating model inputs, providing electrical design information, and ensuring 3D model accuracy against design intent across all engineering disciplines
Inter-Departmental Coordination, Site Support & Vendor Management
- Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines — Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, MEP — to ensure inter-departmental checks are completed, clashes are resolved, and technical interfaces are correctly managed across all Solar PV project engineering deliverables
- Collect project inputs including plot details, feeder arrangements, General Arrangement Drawings, and site-specific parameters from clients and Project Engineering Managers — ensuring design inputs are complete and validated before engineering work commences
- Provide technical support, clarifications, and design guidance to the Site Execution Team — resolving design interpretation questions, client requirement queries, and engineering change requests raised during construction and commissioning phases
- Coordinate with Operations teams to obtain approval of design specifications — and extend engineering support to site teams through commissioning and warranty periods as required by the project delivery programme
