Position Overview

The Senior Rolling Stock Engineer at Sener UAE is a high-seniority technical leadership role covering the full engineering lifecycle of Rolling Stock systems on large-scale Metro and Rail projects. You will lead and coordinate Rolling Stock engineering activities across design and delivery phases — reviewing designs, technical specifications, system requirements, drawings, calculations, and supplier documentation — while managing the critical interfaces between Rolling Stock and the full suite of railway systems including Traction Power, Signalling, Telecommunications, SCADA, Track, Civil, and MEP infrastructure.

This is a role that requires both deep technical mastery of Rolling Stock systems, equipment, and railway operational requirements and the senior engineering leadership capability to guide multidisciplinary teams, represent Rolling Stock engineering in cross-system design reviews, and drive technical compliance across supplier submissions and installation activities. With preferred exposure to complex automated railway systems, major metro or rail projects, and GCC infrastructure experience, the Senior Rolling Stock Engineer at Sener sits at the technical heart of some of the UAE’s most ambitious rail infrastructure programmes — shaping the engineering quality of systems that will carry millions of passengers safely for decades to come.

Why This Senior Rolling Stock Engineer Role at Sener Is Exceptional: Rolling Stock is the most visible, operationally critical, and technically complex element of any metro or rail system — and the engineer who leads Rolling Stock technical coordination across its interfaces with Traction Power, Signalling, SCADA, and Civil infrastructure is the professional who determines whether all these systems work together seamlessly in service. At Sener, on large-scale UAE metro and rail projects, that responsibility comes with genuine engineering authority, end-to-end project ownership, a hybrid working model that respects professional autonomy, and the career-defining satisfaction of seeing the rolling stock systems you engineered carrying passengers through one of the world’s most dynamic cities.

Key Responsibilities

Rolling Stock Engineering Leadership & Design Review

  • Lead and coordinate Rolling Stock engineering activities across design and delivery phases — providing the senior technical direction and engineering oversight that ensures Rolling Stock systems are designed, specified, procured, and delivered in full compliance with project requirements, applicable railway standards, and operational performance targets across the full project lifecycle
  • Review Rolling Stock designs, technical specifications, system requirements, drawings, calculations, and supplier documentation — applying 12–15 years of Rolling Stock engineering expertise to assess technical compliance, identify design gaps or risks, and ensure all documentation produced by designers, suppliers, and contractors meets the project’s contractual and technical requirements
  • Review Rolling Stock technical proposals and supplier submissions for compliance with project requirements — evaluating the technical content of manufacturer and supplier submissions with the depth of Rolling Stock knowledge required to identify non-compliances, request clarifications, and ensure that approved submissions form a sound basis for manufacture and delivery
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on Rolling Stock engineering and system interfaces — mentoring junior engineers, guiding technical decision-making within the Rolling Stock discipline, and representing the Rolling Stock engineering position authoritatively in multidisciplinary project discussions and stakeholder meetings

Systems Interface Coordination — Traction, Signalling, SCADA & Civil

  • Coordinate Rolling Stock interfaces with Traction Power, Signalling, Telecommunications, SCADA, Track, Civil, MEP, and other railway systems — managing the complex, safety-critical technical interfaces between Rolling Stock and all other railway system disciplines to ensure full functional compatibility, operational interoperability, and system-level integration from design through to commissioning
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, technical workshops, interface coordination, and design assurance activities — representing the Rolling Stock engineering discipline in cross-system technical forums, contributing detailed Rolling Stock knowledge to the resolution of interface issues, and ensuring that design decisions made in other disciplines are fully compatible with Rolling Stock requirements and constraints
  • Manage Rolling Stock interface documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), and system requirements — maintaining the technical records of all Rolling Stock system interfaces with sufficient clarity and completeness to guide design, installation, testing, and integration activities without ambiguity across the full lifecycle of the project
  • Coordinate Rolling Stock requirements with Track geometry, Civil structure clearances, platform interface, and depot infrastructure — ensuring that the physical and operational interfaces between Rolling Stock and fixed infrastructure are fully defined, mutually compatible, and incorporated into both Rolling Stock and civil/infrastructure design documentation

Installation Support, Testing & Technical Delivery

  • Support and review Rolling Stock installation activities and ensure alignment with approved designs and technical specifications — providing senior technical oversight during the installation phase to verify that Rolling Stock systems are installed in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, and technical specifications, and that any deviations are identified and resolved before they affect system commissioning
  • Support testing, commissioning, integration, and technical verification activities — contributing Rolling Stock engineering expertise to the development and review of test procedures, witnessing critical tests, reviewing test results against acceptance criteria, and supporting the systematic verification that all Rolling Stock systems and interfaces perform as specified under commissioning conditions
  • Coordinate Rolling Stock installation and integration activities across project phases — working closely with contractors, manufacturers, and system integrators to sequence installation activities correctly, manage technical dependencies, and ensure that Rolling Stock integration with other railway systems progresses efficiently and in the right technical order

Qualifications & Requirements

Core Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline — from a recognised institution; candidates from both mechanical and electrical engineering backgrounds are suited to this role depending on their specific Rolling Stock system specialisation
  • 12–15 years of relevant experience in Rail Systems and Rolling Stock engineering — with a comprehensive, demonstrable track record covering Rolling Stock design review, technical specification development, supplier coordination, interface management, and installation or commissioning support on major rail or metro projects
  • Proven experience reviewing Rolling Stock designs, specifications, drawings, technical submissions, and supplier documentation — with the technical depth to identify compliance issues, gaps, and risks in manufacturer submissions and to engage suppliers technically at a senior engineering level
  • Experience coordinating Rolling Stock interfaces with major railway systems — specifically Traction Power, Signalling, Telecommunications, SCADA, Track, and Civil infrastructure — with a thorough understanding of the technical, functional, and operational implications of each interface
  • Strong knowledge of applicable railway standards and technical requirements — including EN standards, TSIs, or equivalent international railway technical standards applicable to metro and rail system design, procurement, and delivery in the GCC region

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with major railway system integrators or Rolling Stock manufacturers — providing deep manufacturing, system integration, and operational performance knowledge that strengthens engineering leadership capability
  • Experience on large-scale Metro or Rail projects — with the project management complexity, multi-stakeholder coordination, and technical scope that major metro infrastructure programmes require from senior Rolling Stock engineers
  • Experience with complex automated railway systems — including GoA3/GoA4 driverless metro systems where Rolling Stock automation interfaces with Signalling, SCADA, and platform door systems require particularly rigorous technical coordination
  • GCC project experience — with knowledge of regional railway authority requirements, local engineering standards, and the specific procurement and delivery environments of major UAE and GCC rail infrastructure programmes
