Position Overview

The Analytical Chemists at Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) Dubai will work within the National Reference Laboratories for Quality Control under the National Center for Research & Development — performing laboratory testing and scientific assessment of either veterinary products or dietary supplements in compliance with applicable UAE quality standards and regulatory requirements. You will implement and validate analytical methods, conduct quality control testing using HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, dissolution, and related equipment, perform stability testing, maintain accurate laboratory documentation, and contribute to the scientific rigor and operational excellence of EDE’s national reference laboratory function — supporting the UAE government’s mission of ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of veterinary and supplement products in the national market.

Why These Roles Matter: As Analytical Chemists at the Emirates Drug Establishment’s National Reference Laboratories, your testing results, method validations, and QC assessments are the scientific foundation on which the UAE government’s regulatory decisions about veterinary product and dietary supplement quality are based. Every analytical result you produce, every method you validate, and every quality assessment you complete directly contributes to protecting UAE consumers and animals from substandard or non-compliant products — a genuinely consequential public health and regulatory science role with real national significance.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing & Quality Control Activities

  • Perform laboratory testing and quality control activities for veterinary products or dietary supplements — using validated analytical methods and applying HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, dissolution testing, and other approved techniques to generate accurate, reliable, and regulatory-compliant analytical data for EDE’s national reference laboratory quality control program
  • Conduct scientific assessment of veterinary products or dietary supplements — evaluating product quality, composition, and compliance against applicable pharmacopoeial standards, UAE regulatory specifications, and EDE’s internal quality requirements — and communicating assessment findings clearly in structured, well-evidenced scientific reports
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation — including HPLC systems, gas chromatographs, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, and dissolution apparatus — following all equipment operation, calibration, and preventive maintenance procedures to ensure instrument performance meets laboratory quality system requirements

Analytical Method Implementation & Validation

  • Implement and validate analytical methods for the testing of veterinary products or dietary supplements — conducting full validation studies including specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, and robustness assessments in accordance with ICH guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Document all method validation activities accurately and completely — preparing method validation reports, validation protocols, and supporting data summaries that meet EDE’s documentation standards and demonstrate regulatory compliance to internal and external reviewers
  • Investigate and troubleshoot analytical method performance issues — applying scientific problem-solving skills to identify root causes of method failures or unexpected results, implementing corrective actions, and escalating complex technical challenges to senior scientists with well-documented investigation findings

Stability Testing

  • Perform stability testing of veterinary products or dietary supplements according to approved stability protocols — testing samples at defined time points and storage conditions, recording results accurately, and preparing stability summary reports that comply with UAE regulatory and ICH stability guideline requirements
  • Maintain the stability sample inventory and testing schedule — ensuring all stability samples are correctly labeled, stored under specified conditions, and tested at the correct time points without delay or omission, and that the stability database is updated accurately after every stability testing activity

Laboratory Documentation & Quality System Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and GLP-compliant laboratory documentation — including analytical worksheets, raw data records, instrument logbooks, reagent preparation records, and laboratory notebooks — ensuring all documentation meets EDE’s quality system standards and is audit-ready at all times
  • Contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the laboratory quality management system — supporting internal quality audits, participating in proficiency testing programs, and implementing corrective and preventive actions that sustain and improve the laboratory’s quality performance and regulatory accreditation status
  • Prepare clear, well-structured scientific reports — communicating testing results, method validation outcomes, stability findings, and quality assessments in concise, accurate written form suitable for regulatory authority review and EDE management decision-making

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Chemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline — providing the theoretical and practical chemistry foundation required for rigorous analytical laboratory work at a UAE government national reference laboratory

Experience Requirements

  • Relevant professional experience in quality control or reference laboratory environments — with demonstrated hands-on competency in analytical chemistry testing, instrument operation, and laboratory documentation in a regulated pharmaceutical, veterinary, nutraceutical, or food testing context
  • Experience with veterinary products or dietary supplements is specifically preferred for the respective role — candidates with sector-specific analytical experience in these product categories will be strongly preferred over generalist chemistry laboratory candidates
  • Experience with analytical method validation, stability testing, and laboratory quality systems — demonstrating the ability to design, execute, and document analytical validation studies and stability programs in compliance with regulatory guidelines

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Hands-on knowledge of analytical techniques including HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, dissolution testing, and related laboratory instrumentation — with practical experience operating these instruments in a quality-controlled laboratory environment
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical ability — essential for producing accurate, reliable testing data in a regulatory reference laboratory where data quality directly influences UAE government regulatory decisions
  • Strong report-writing and scientific communication skills — able to prepare clear, structured, and well-evidenced analytical reports, validation summaries, and scientific assessments suitable for regulatory review
