Position Overview
This Assistant Construction Manager – Civil role reviews civil drawings and construction scope for the substation, developing and monitoring construction schedules while coordinating civil activities with electrical and mechanical teams. You will manage earthworks, foundations for major equipment, and substation buildings, supervise cable trenches and drainage systems, oversee roads and external works, coordinate grounding grid civil support, manage material and resource procurement, supervise testing and inspections, and track progress with regular reporting.

Key Responsibilities
Civil Works Planning & Earthworks
- Review civil drawings, specifications, and construction scope for the substation
- Develop and monitor construction schedules, coordinating civil activities with electrical and mechanical teams
- Manage site clearing, excavation, grading, leveling, and cut and fill operations
- Ensure proper soil compaction and ground improvement per geotechnical requirements
Foundations for Electrical Equipment
- Supervise construction of foundations for power transformers, circuit breakers, gantry structures, and bus support structures
- Ensure foundations meet load requirements, anchor bolt positioning, and tolerances
Substation Buildings & Cable Infrastructure
- Oversee construction of control buildings, relay rooms, GIS buildings, and security buildings
- Supervise construction of cable trenches, ducts, and vaults, coordinating routing with electrical teams
Drainage, Roads & External Works
- Ensure installation of drainage systems, oil containment pits, and stormwater drains
- Manage construction of internal access roads, boundary walls, and security fencing
- Coordinate civil works for grounding grid installation, including trenching and backfilling
Material Management, Testing & Reporting
- Coordinate procurement of concrete, reinforcement steel, and structural steel
- Manage manpower, equipment, and subcontractors
- Supervise concrete slump/cube strength tests, soil compaction tests, and reinforcement inspections
- Track daily progress, prepare reports, and coordinate with project managers and clients
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of substation civil construction including foundations, buildings, and drainage
- Knowledge of geotechnical requirements and soil investigation reports
- Familiarity with concrete testing, soil compaction testing, and reinforcement inspection procedures
Essential Skills
- Strong scheduling, coordination, and multidisciplinary management skills
- Ability to manage material procurement, manpower, and subcontractors effectively
