Scope: Healthcare facilities across Abu Dhabi

Mission: Protecting patient, staff, and visitor safety through reliable water systems

Water Quality Engineer Position Overview

The Water Quality Engineer role is a safety-critical position that protects people in healthcare settings from waterborne risk. Hospitals and clinics depend on water that is safe to drink, to wash with, and to use in clinical settings, and the water systems behind every outlet need careful management to stay that way. Your work starts with the approved water safety plans and the regulatory framework, including HTM 04-01 guidance and Department of Health requirements. From there, you’ll run sampling, testing, and monitoring programmes for potable water and domestic hot water, making sure samples are taken by competent people using approved procedures. Legionella control is a central concern. You’ll coordinate risk assessments and control measures, monitor water temperatures and disinfection levels, and oversee the remedial action needed when results fall outside what is acceptable. When a deviation appears, you’ll investigate it, identify the cause, and recommend corrective and preventive steps. Physical inspection is part of the work too. You’ll look at storage tanks, distribution networks, outlets, calorifiers, and associated equipment to find contamination risks and maintenance needs, and you’ll coordinate flushing, cleaning, and disinfection so that patients, staff, and visitors are kept away from risk while the work takes place. Working with others is essential. You’ll liaise with clinical teams, infection prevention and control specialists, laboratory providers, maintenance teams, and specialist contractors, and you’ll monitor contractors against technical requirements, safety procedures, work permits, and contract terms. Records and reporting keep everything auditable, so you’ll maintain accurate sampling results, temperature logs, inspections, risk assessments, and remedial work, and you’ll support audits and inspections with current documentation.

As Water Quality Engineer, you’ll deepen your expertise in water treatment, hygiene management, and Legionella control, while building the analytical and coordination skills needed to lead water safety across a healthcare estate. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering from an accredited university, and brings at least seven years of relevant experience in water quality management or a related engineering field, with at least three years in healthcare facilities. Knowledge of water monitoring, sampling, testing, and hygiene management is essential, as is familiarity with HTM 04-01, DoH guidelines, and healthcare water safety requirements. Certification in line with relevant HTM and DoH guidelines is expected, along with a sound understanding of Legionella control, risk assessment, temperature monitoring, and disinfection. Experience with water distribution systems and storage tanks, the ability to interpret laboratory results, and proficiency in CMMS and water quality reporting tools will help you succeed. Fluent English and a customer-focused approach are also required. For experienced water engineers in Abu Dhabi who want to protect public health in healthcare settings, this role offers serious responsibility and meaningful work.
