The Quality Assurance Coordinator plays a critical role in food safety and quality control by conducting inspections, performing laboratory testing, documenting findings, raising non-conformities, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented. Key Responsibilities
As Quality Assurance Coordinator in food manufacturing, your responsibilities include:
Inspection & Quality Control
- Inspect incoming raw materials including ingredients, packaging materials, and additives for quality specifications and acceptance criteria
- Monitor in-process production through line inspections, verifying Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Operational Prerequisite Programs (OPRPs)
- Evaluate finished goods for quality parameters, packaging integrity, labeling accuracy, and compliance with product specifications
- Conduct visual inspections, organoleptic assessments, and physical measurements during production
- Verify proper implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene standards
Sampling & Laboratory Testing
- Collect representative samples following proper sampling plans and aseptic techniques
- Perform basic laboratory testing including microbiological analysis (plating, incubation, enumeration)
- Conduct chemical testing for pH, moisture content, salt content, sugar levels (Brix), and other parameters
- Execute sensory evaluations including appearance, taste, odor, and texture assessments
- Operate laboratory equipment including pH meters, refractometers, thermometers, and incubators
- Interpret testing results and compare against established specifications and limits
Compliance & Standards Management
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions
- Verify adherence to ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System requirements
- Support BRC Global Standards compliance including product safety, legality, and quality requirements
- Maintain compliance with HACCP principles and monitor Critical Control Points
- Ensure conformance with local regulatory requirements and food safety legislation
Documentation & Reporting
- Document all inspection findings, test results, and quality observations accurately and thoroughly
- Complete inspection checklists, batch records, and quality control forms
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for deviations from specifications or procedures
- Track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to closure with verification of effectiveness
- Maintain organized records for traceability, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance
- Prepare quality reports and communicate findings to quality management and production teams
Quality Improvement & Problem Solving
- Participate in root cause analysis for quality issues and production deviations
- Support implementation of corrective actions and process improvements
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and quality enhancement projects
- Provide feedback to suppliers on raw material quality issues and non-conformances
Basic Requirements
The ideal candidate for this QA coordinator position must meet:
Educational Background (MANDATORY)
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Quality Assurance, or related field
- Strong academic foundation in food safety, microbiology, food chemistry, or quality management
Knowledge & Expertise
- Comprehensive knowledge of food safety systems including HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP, and BRC Global Standards
- Understanding of food microbiology, food chemistry, and food processing principles
- Familiarity with quality control procedures, inspection techniques, and sampling methodologies
