 Position Overview
The Microbiologist at Tanmiah Poultry is a technically advanced laboratory role within one of Saudi Arabia’s most important poultry food safety operations. You will be responsible for the full spectrum of microbiological analysis — from food pathogen isolation and identification to ISO 17025 compliance, SOP development, proficiency testing coordination, staff training, and audit documentation management.
In the Lab Manager’s absence, this role assumes full responsibility for the smooth functioning of all laboratory activities — making it a position of genuine authority and professional responsibility within the organization. For microbiologists with a passion for food safety, laboratory excellence, and team development in a dynamic poultry and food manufacturing environment, this is a highly rewarding career opportunity in Saudi Arabia in 2026.
Why This Role Matters: In the poultry industry, microbiological testing is the scientific frontline of food safety — the discipline that detects the pathogens that could harm consumers before products ever reach the market. The Microbiologist at Tanmiah Poultry is responsible for ensuring that every batch of chicken, every water sample, and every environmental swab is accurately tested and reported under ISO 17025 standards. This role directly protects the health of Saudi consumers and upholds the food safety integrity of one of the Kingdom’s most respected food brands.
Detailed Responsibilities
Microbiological Analysis & Pathogen Testing
- Isolate, identify, and enumerate food pathogens and indicator microorganisms in processed food, animal feed, raw materials, water, and environmental swab samples — applying internationally recognized microbiological methods and protocols.
- Ensure that all quality assurance protocols are strictly met during the performance of microbiological analysis — maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and reproducibility of all test results produced in the laboratory.
- Perform all laboratory activities in full compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and the Quality, Food Safety, and Environmental system policies of Tanmiah Poultry.
ISO 17025 Compliance & SOP Development
- Coordinate with the Lab Manager to develop and validate new microbiological analytical methods — ensuring all new methods are scientifically sound, fit for purpose, and documented in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements.
- Ensure, in coordination with the Lab Manager, the continuous compliance of the laboratory with ISO 17025 management system requirements — identifying gaps, implementing improvements, and maintaining all required documentation.
- Develop, validate, and maintain comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all microbiological testing activities — ensuring SOPs are current, accessible, and consistently followed by all laboratory staff.
- Ensure the updating and availability of all documents in compliance with all internal and external audit requirements — maintaining an audit-ready laboratory documentation system at all times.
Proficiency Testing & Laboratory Excellence
- Coordinate with the Lab Manager to identify and participate in globally recognized Proficiency Testing (PT) schemes — ensuring the laboratory’s analytical performance is externally benchmarked and validated against international standards.
- Assist the Lab Manager in researching and evaluating new PT scheme providers globally — supporting the laboratory’s continuous improvement in analytical competence and accreditation maintenance.
- Prepare and submit final analytical reports to the Lab Manager for review and approval — ensuring all reports are accurate, complete, clearly presented, and submitted within agreed timelines.
Training & Laboratory Management
- Train lab analysts, lab technicians, and Saudi national staff on microbiological analytical techniques, quality assurance procedures, GLP standards, and laboratory best practices — contributing to both technical competency development and nationalization objectives.
- Coordinate with the Lab Manager on training schedules — maintaining comprehensive training records for all laboratory personnel in compliance with ISO 17025 and organizational requirements.
- In the absence of the Lab Manager, assume full responsibility for the smooth functioning of all laboratory activities — ensuring continuity of operations, quality compliance, and team performance are maintained without interruption.
- Support the overall laboratory team in maintaining compliance with all processes, standards, and organizational policies — performing additional duties as directed to support the laboratory’s operational and quality objectives.
Qualifications & What Makes You Successful
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Food Safety, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline — required
- Postgraduate qualification or specialization in food microbiology, laboratory management, or food safety systems is a valued advantage during candidate selection
Experience & Technical Skills
- Relevant experience in a food microbiology laboratory — preferably within a poultry, meat processing, or FMCG food manufacturing environment in Saudi Arabia or the GCC
- Practical hands-on experience with food pathogen testing, indicator organism analysis, and microbiological methods for processed food, feed, water, and environmental samples
- Demonstrated experience with ISO 17025 management systems — implementation, maintenance, documentation, and audit support in an accredited laboratory environment
- Proven ability to develop and validate SOPs for microbiological analytical methods — from method development through to documentation and staff training
- Experience with Proficiency Testing programs — participation, result interpretation, and corrective action where needed — is a strong advantage
- Prior experience training and mentoring lab staff — analysts, technicians, and junior scientists — on analytical techniques and quality standards
