Key Responsibilities
Kill Floor & Production Management
- Manage daily production activities across kill floor operations ensuring throughput targets are met
- Oversee all processing areas including offal, variety byproducts, and feet departments daily
- Apply deep technical expertise across all Slaughter Department functions and processes
- Monitor production flow identifying bottlenecks and implementing corrective actions immediately
Yield Measurement & Performance Reporting
- Measure and report daily production yields across all harvest and processing areas accurately
- Track and document downtime incidents providing detailed analysis and root cause reporting
- Monitor departmental KPIs ensuring production goals and efficiency benchmarks are consistently achieved
- Prepare and submit daily production reports to plant management and operations leadership
USDA Compliance & Regulatory Communication
- Communicate confidently and professionally with on-site USDA inspectors at all times
- Maintain full compliance with government statutes, laws, and regulations governing meat processing
- Ensure all company policies, procedures, and guidelines are adhered to across the department
- Address USDA inspector concerns promptly and implement corrective measures as required
Team Leadership & Associate Management
- Manage Slaughter Department associates including scheduling, performance, and daily direction
- Take responsibility for associate discipline processes following company HR policies and procedures
- Actively work to reduce associate turnover through engagement, training, and positive leadership
- Foster a safe, productive, and respectful work environment across all shift operations
Departmental Goals & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and implement department production and quality goals on a consistent daily basis
- Identify opportunities for process improvements enhancing yield, safety, and efficiency outcomes
- Collaborate with plant management on strategic objectives and departmental improvement initiatives
- Ensure food safety standards and sanitation protocols are maintained across all harvest areas
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) — mandatory minimum educational requirement
- Additional training or certification in food safety, HACCP, or meat processing operations advantageous
Experience Requirements
- 5+ years of supervisory experience across all areas of kill floor, offal, and variety products (Essential)
- Hands-on expertise with day-to-day operations in a USDA-regulated slaughter environment
- Proven track record managing teams and production activities in meat processing facilities
- Demonstrated experience communicating with USDA inspectors and regulatory personnel
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to work effectively in a hot, demanding physical processing plant environment
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods on kill floor and processing areas each shift
