Key Responsibilities

Daily Farm Operations Management

  • Manage all daily farming operations across both the sustainability farm and research farm in Oceano, CA
  • Oversee soil preparation, planting schedules, irrigation management, and fertility programmes throughout the growing season
  • Implement and manage pest and disease control programmes to protect crop health and research trial integrity
  • Plan and execute crop rotation strategies that support long-term soil health and sustainable production goals
  • Assist with organisation and occasional management of contract labour crews as operational needs require

Farm Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate and maintain a full range of farm and tractor equipment competently and safely at all times
  • Work proficiently with automated and GPS-guided farm equipment used in modern agricultural research operations
  • Perform routine equipment checks, maintenance schedules, and coordinate repairs to minimise operational downtime
  • Operate mowers, forklifts, and other specialised farm machinery in compliance with all company safety standards

Sustainable Farming Development

  • Actively contribute to the development of sustainable farming practices aligned with Bejo Seeds’ environmental goals

Research & Sustainability Trial Support

  • Assist with the planning, logistics coordination, and field-level evaluation of vegetable seed research and sustainability trials
  • Work in close collaboration with the Production Research Manager and relevant staff on all project-related processes
  • Maintain accurate field records, trial documentation, and research data to support ongoing R&D activities
  • Participate in continued education and professional development activities relevant to sustainable agriculture and seed research

Administration, Reporting & Company Engagement

  • Submit monthly expense reports and mileage records accurately and on time in accordance with company procedures
  • Complete all mandatory company training and adhere to all safety standards and protocols at all times
  • Attend and actively contribute to mandatory company meetings and team planning sessions throughout the season
  • Assist with other operational activities as needed — including farm dinners, educational tours, and community workshops

 Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomic Business, Pest Management, Crop Biotechnology, or related field is preferred
  • Professional certifications in sustainable farming, pest management, or soil science are a valued advantage

Experience Requirements

  • 2–3 years of hands-on, practical farming experience in a field-based agricultural role — this is a firm requirement
  • 2–3 years of skilled tractor driving experience across varied farm conditions and equipment types
  • 1–3 years of agricultural research trial experience is preferred and highly advantageous for this position
  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean record in good standing — a commercial driver’s licence (CDL) is a definite plus
