Position Overview
This Applications Chemist role at CECO Environmental’s Dubai Innovation Centre is a technically precise and environmentally impactful position at the intersection of water science, laboratory chemistry, and industrial process validation. The successful candidate will conduct water analysis, execute both internal and external pilot testing units, perform jar tests for process and technology validation, develop and standardise laboratory testing procedures, and manage Innovation Lab inventory and equipment readiness. The role requires strong technical knowledge of water parameters, wastewater treatment processes, QA/QC laboratory standards, and approximately 3 years of UAE-based water and wastewater lab experience. Key Responsibilities
Water Analysis & Laboratory Testing
- Conduct initial and ongoing water analysis at the Dubai Innovation Centre ensuring accurate, reliable sampling and testing
- Perform comprehensive water parameter assessments across physical, chemical, and microbiological testing categories
- Carry out jar tests as required to support process validation, technology assessment, and treatment solution optimisation
- Maintain strict accuracy and reproducibility in all water analysis procedures in accordance with established methodologies
Pilot Testing — Internal & External Units
- Execute pilot testing programmes using both internal and external pilot units for process and water technology validation
- Plan, set up, and operate pilot test runs to evaluate treatment efficiency and validate CECO’s water solution technologies
- Collect and record performance data from pilot tests to support engineering, commercial, and technical development teams
- Troubleshoot pilot unit performance issues and suggest corrective actions based on analytical findings and test results
Test Documentation & Reporting Standards
- Prepare, document, and file all test results clearly and accurately in accordance with established reporting standards
- Maintain comprehensive, well-organised laboratory records covering all sampling, testing, and validation activities
- Develop and present technical reports summarising water analysis outcomes, pilot test results, and process performance data
- Ensure all documentation meets internal quality management requirements and external compliance standards
Procedure Standardisation & Lab Management
- Develop and standardise testing procedures to ensure consistency, repeatability, and full regulatory compliance across all tests
- Manage and maintain the Innovation Lab inventory — including chemicals, consumables, and all equipment readiness
- Monitor laboratory consumable stock levels and coordinate timely procurement to prevent operational disruptions
- Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and operating to the highest performance standards
QA/QC & Process Compliance
- Apply QA/QC chemist expertise to ensure all system operating parameters are in line with design bases and compliance requirements
- Support sewage treatment plant and industrial water system validation through rigorous analytical testing and quality monitoring
- Identify deviations from expected water quality parameters and communicate findings promptly to technical and engineering teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory processes, testing protocols, and quality assurance procedures
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Water Science, or a closely related discipline
- Additional certifications in water treatment, laboratory quality management, or environmental compliance are advantageous
Experience Requirements
- Approximately 3 years of hands-on experience working in water and wastewater laboratories specifically within the UAE
- Demonstrated understanding of water parameters and proven experience conducting comprehensive water analysis programmes
- Experience working as a QA/QC chemist in a sewage treatment plant environment ensuring operating parameters meet design bases
- Proven ability to execute pilot testing, jar tests, and applied water chemistry validation procedures professionally
Essential Skills
