Position Overview
This PLC Commissioning Engineer role develops and commissions PLC software while respecting BHS/CHS rules to guarantee high functional performance and eliminate system redundancies. You will analyze mechanical, electrical, and control drawings against project specifications, prepare design and commissioning documentation, liaise with design, IT, and simulation engineers on control aspects, undertake system testing and stakeholder training, and provide onsite support to optimize existing baggage and cargo handling systems.

Key Responsibilities
PLC Development & Commissioning
- Develop and commission PLC software respecting BHS/CHS rules for high functional performance
- Eliminate system redundancies and ensure project requirements are met
- Analyze mechanical layout, electrical, and control drawings against project specifications
Documentation & Design Coordination
- Prepare design documentation including Functional Design Specification, Operator Manuals, and Training Manuals
- Generate commissioning documentation: method statements, pre-commissioning checklists, and test protocols
- Liaise with design, IT, and Simulation Engineers on drive selection, fieldbus topology, and safety considerations
Testing & Stakeholder Support
- Undertake and support all levels of testing, liaising with integration teams across stakeholders
- Provide system training to stakeholders and close snags successfully
- Provide onsite support to monitor and optimize existing BHS/CHS system performance
Continuous Improvement & Bid Support
- Participate in training on new products (e.g., Baggage Base Logic) and provide feedback to R&D/HQ
- Peer review and provide feedback on low-level control estimates and technical documents during the bid phase
- Review customer specifications to ensure systems meet client operational requirements
Compliance
- Follow occupational health, safety, security, environment, and quality processes per the Project HSSE and Quality Plans
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Electro-Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or a relevant field
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of automation experience in object-oriented software, programming, and commissioning involving Siemens PLCs
- Experience with Simatic Manager S7, TIA, Simatic Failsafe Systems, HMIs (WinCC Flexible), and drives (Sinamics, MicroMaster, SEW, Nord)
- Specifically in Baggage Handling or Cargo Handling Systems
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with Siemens Simatic S7-400 & 1500 systems on Profibus and Profinet
- Experience with WinCC and S7-400FH systems & CFC is an added advantage
- Good knowledge of BHS/CHS process, safety systems, and third-party interfaces (ATR, X-ray, sorters, lifts)
- Experience with e-Plan and AutoCAD is an added advantage
Essential Skills
- Excellent collaborative and organizational skills with effective stakeholder communication
- Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment safety standards and electrical engineering concepts
