Position Overview

This Field Agronomist role assists with R&D and commercialization tasks for a new crop, collaborating with agronomists, scientists, and cross-functional partners. You will regularly scout commercial fields for crop health, weeds, and pests, perform field trials and data collection/analysis, communicate data and recommendations to the agriculture team, interface with commercial farming partners, deploy emerging agricultural technologies, and implement regenerative agriculture practices that improve crop sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Field Scouting & Crop Monitoring

  • Regularly scout commercial fields in a given territory to monitor crop health, weeds, pests, or other issues
  • Interface with commercial farming partners to troubleshoot problems and ensure proper procedures

Field Trials & Data Analysis

  • Perform or assist with field trials and conduct technically sound data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Communicate data and recommendations to the agriculture team in a timely manner

Technology Deployment & Innovation

  • Use digital technologies, platforms, and solutions to speed learning and develop best practices at commercial scale
  • Help deploy emerging agricultural technologies across the crop program

Sustainability & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Implement regenerative agriculture practices that improve the sustainability of the crop
  • Work in a cross-disciplined environment, collaborating with external partners and research organizations

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • BS in Agronomy or related field of study
  • Or Associate degree in agriculture with 2 years relevant experience
  • Or 6 years of relevant experience

Location & Field Requirements

  • Live within commuting distance or willing to relocate to SW Arizona or SE California
  • Familiar with agricultural practices in the Southwest US
  • Capable of performing in-field tasks more than 75% of the time, including physically demanding activities in high Arizona temperatures

Certifications & Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of field trial methodology and data analysis
  • Have or ability to obtain FAA Drone Pilot License and CA PCA certification
