Position Overview
This Powertrain Engineer role in Abu Dhabi is a senior hands-on engineering position within an advanced R&D mechanical engineering team. You will own end-to-end integration of ICE powertrain systems, define and maintain system architecture for propulsion and drivetrain subsystems, integrate internal combustion engines into new and existing platforms, design and integrate gearboxes, CVT, clutches, and reduction drives, perform system-level analysis including torque, vibration, and fatigue calculations, conduct CAD-based design and FEA validation, participate in bench and integration testing, collaborate with controls, electrical, and manufacturing teams, and maintain full technical documentation and PDM/PLM configuration control throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Powertrain System Ownership & Architecture
- Own end-to-end integration of ICE powertrain systems within complex mechanical platforms
- Define and maintain system architecture for propulsion and drivetrain subsystems across the project lifecycle
- Ensure full system integration, reliability, and performance compliance with design requirements
- Take ownership of powertrain design from concept through integration, testing, and final validation
Engine Integration & Mechanical Systems
- Integrate internal combustion engines (2-stroke and 4-stroke) into new and existing mechanical platforms
- Manage engine mounting, alignment, cooling, intake, exhaust, lubrication, and accessory systems
- Support engine selection, adaptation, and tuning for performance, efficiency, and durability requirements
- Resolve integration challenges across mechanical, thermal, and structural system interfaces
Drivetrain & Transmission Design
- Design and integrate gearboxes, reduction drives, clutches, belts, chains, and CVT systems
- Perform gear ratio selection, torque capacity calculations, and drivetrain efficiency optimization
- Develop mechanical interfaces between engine, gearbox, and driveline components
- Ensure drivetrain designs meet performance, safety, and durability requirements across all operating conditions
Engineering Analysis, Testing & Validation
- Perform calculations for torque, power, vibration, fatigue, thermal loads, and drivetrain losses
- Conduct CAD-based design, packaging studies, motion analysis, and basic FEA validation using SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX
- Participate in bench testing, integration testing, and system validation activities
- Analyze test data, identify root causes of performance or reliability issues, and drive iterative design improvements
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation
- Work with controls/software teams for engine control, torque response, and safety logic integration
- Coordinate with electrical teams for starter systems, alternators, and hybrid interfaces
- Engage with manufacturing partners and suppliers for prototyping and component development
- Prepare technical documentation, assembly drawings, and integration instructions — maintain PDM/PLM configuration control
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering —
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in powertrain, ICE systems, or drivetrain engineering (REQUIRED)
- Strong hands-on experience with internal combustion engines — 2-stroke or 4-stroke
- Experience in prototype assembly, integration, and troubleshooting
- Exposure to multidisciplinary engineering environments covering mechanical, controls, and electrical disciplines
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in CAD tools including SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or equivalent
