Position Overview

This Marine, Civil and Structural Inspector role monitors activities on job sites to ensure compliance with contract documents including technical specifications, construction drawings, and CQA plans for construction involving dredging, reclamation, pontoons, quay walls, and pilings. You will provide periodic monitoring of active construction sites, prepare daily and weekly field reports and progress reports, ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy, interact with contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients, and abide by site-specific health and safety plans.

Key Responsibilities

Site Monitoring & Compliance

  • Monitor activities on job sites to ensure compliance with relevant contract documents, including technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, and CQA plans
  • Monitor construction activities involving dredging, reclamation, pontoons, quay walls, and pilings
  • Provide periodic monitoring of active construction sites

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily field reports, weekly field reports, and progress reports
  • Ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy and procedures

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Interact with project personnel including contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients
  • Cultivate an integrated team approach through open communication and work progress meetings

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Observe and abide by site-specific project health and safety plans
  • Follow the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of applicable experience
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college with a minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Marine, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering with 2 years of experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training

Technical Skills

  • Technical understanding of site investigation, construction quality assurance, and construction management for marine, structural, and coastal projects
  • Construction experience involving dredging, reclamation, pontoons, rockworks, quay walls, and pilings
  • Ability to monitor several different types of construction activities simultaneously
  • Experience with Windows-based software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)

Essential Skills & Physical Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills and detail orientation
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 kg unaided and 21-45 kg with assistance
  • Ability to speak, hear, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch as required
  • Strong willingness to work outdoors with interest in building a career in engineering consulting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivated with a strong work ethic
