The role requires strong corn, soybean, and field crop production knowledge, the ability to identify pests and diseases, GPS and precision ag platform proficiency, accurate field data collection, and a willingness to work intensive hours during planting, detasseling, inspection, and harvest seasons — including up to 7 days per week during peak periods. Why This Role Matters: As an Agronomist at Syngenta Seeds in Danvers, MN, you are directly contributing to the food and fuel security of billions of people worldwide — supporting the production of high-quality corn and soybean seed that helps farmers across America achieve higher yields, mitigate crop risks, and practise more sustainable agriculture. Your field scouting, grower relationships, and precision data work are the frontline of Syngenta’s global mission to revolutionise food security through science and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Grower Recruitment, Contracting & Onboarding

  • Support grower recruitment, onboarding, and contract administration under the guidance of senior agronomists in the production team
  • Assist in executing agronomic production plans developed by senior team members and communicate directed adjustments to growers
  • Coordinate with growers on agronomic inputs in line with production specifications — seeds, nutrients, crop protection, and timing
  • Assist grower contract execution, field mapping, state seed certification management, and production-system data entry

Field Scouting, Crop Monitoring & Data Collection

  • Conduct regular field scouting and crop monitoring across assigned corn and soybean seed production fields throughout the growing season
  • Collect accurate and thorough field data — stand counts, disease and pest observations, purity inspections, and yield estimates
  • Document all field observations and report findings promptly and clearly to the production lead for review and action
  • Identify common pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies across corn and soybean crops and recommend appropriate management actions

Detasseling, Rouging & Pollination Management

  • Assist in planning and coordinating detasseling, rouging, and pollination management activities during the critical reproductive window
  • Support the organisation and supervision of detasseling crews — ensuring quality, timing, and efficiency across all assigned fields
  • Monitor pollen shed timing and field uniformity to ensure optimal cross-pollination and maximum hybrid seed yield outcomes
  • Document and report detasseling completion, rouging observations, and pollination progress to the production lead accurately

Harvest Logistics, Inventory & Precision Agriculture

  • Support harvest planning and logistics coordination with growers and facility site personnel for efficient seasonal harvest execution
  • Assist parent-seed inventory allocation and variety distribution to assigned seed producers across the Danvers territory
  • Support bin-sampling activities in accordance with QMS requirements and maintain field records compliant with WPS and EPA standards
  • Use GPS mapping, precision agriculture platforms, and production data systems to record and track all field activities accurately

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required — an advanced degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Science, or related field is preferred
  • Coursework or credentials in precision agriculture, GPS mapping, seed production, or crop physiology are a valued advantage

Experience Requirements

  • Less than 3 years of experience in seed production, agronomy, field crop management, or a closely related agricultural field
  • Basic corn, soybean, and field-crop production and crop-physiology knowledge — the foundation for all field agronomy decisions
  • Proficiency with precision agriculture tools, GPS mapping systems, and production data platforms used in modern seed production

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Ability to walk seed production fields in varied terrain and all weather conditions — including dusty, hot, and physically demanding environments
  • Availability to work up to 7 days per week during planting, detasseling, inspection, and harvest seasons as required
