Position Overview
The Draughtsman – Infrastructure at Carlisle Abu Dhabi is a senior, technically expert drafting role responsible for developing difficult and complex working drawings from equipment specifications, engineering notes, sketches, and detailed design information — ensuring all outputs meet company standards, industry codes, and the engineering requirements of major infrastructure and utilities projects across the UAE and GCC region.
This role demands both deep technical drafting capability and the project coordination experience to work effectively alongside engineers, designers, and construction managers in a fast-moving infrastructure project environment. With 10+ years of GCC infrastructure drafting experience as a strict requirement, this is not an entry-level position — it is a senior technical contribution role for a draughtsman who has built their career on the precision, standards knowledge, and CAD software mastery that complex utilities and infrastructure projects demand. If that describes you, this is the right opportunity in Abu Dhabi in 2026.
Why This Role Matters: Utilities infrastructure — water supply networks, sewerage systems, stormwater drainage, power distribution, and telecoms ducts — is the invisible foundation that makes urban life in Abu Dhabi and the UAE possible. Every working drawing an infrastructure draughtsman produces is a precise instruction set for construction teams who will build the systems that millions of people depend on daily. The accuracy, code compliance, and coordination quality of those drawings is not just an engineering standard — it is a direct contribution to the infrastructure that defines how a city functions, grows, and serves its residents. That is the professional significance of this role.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Drafting & Engineering Drawing Production
- Utilise a CAD workstation to prepare engineering drawings, sketches, and design documentation from general engineering and design information — following established company standards and procedures to produce technically accurate, fully coordinated construction-ready working drawings
- Develop difficult and complex working drawings from equipment specifications, engineering notes, sketches, and detailed design information — applying 10+ years of infrastructure drafting expertise to interpret diverse and sometimes incomplete design inputs and translate them into precise, buildable drawing packages
- Read and interpret both 2D and 3D designs and supplier/manufacturer drawings — extracting the relevant dimensional, specification, and installation information needed to produce accurate working drawings that reflect design intent and comply with applicable codes and standards
- Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for drawing preparation — ensuring all dimensions, coordinates, elevations, and levels shown on infrastructure drawings are arithmetically correct, internally consistent, and aligned with the surveyed site data and engineering design parameters
Civil 3D Design & BIM Modelling
- Carry out design work on Civil 3D — applying excellent Civil 3D software experience to produce 3D infrastructure models, corridor designs, utility alignments, and grading solutions that support the project’s engineering design and authority submission requirements
- Carry out BIM modelling tasks — developing and maintaining federated infrastructure BIM models that support multidisciplinary coordination, clash detection, and the digital project delivery requirements of Carlisle’s infrastructure clients
- Provide BIM modelling and design support across the project team — contributing to model coordination meetings, updating models in response to design changes and RFI responses, and ensuring the BIM model accurately reflects the current approved design at all times
- Ensure the consistency and integrity of CAD and BIM model databases — maintaining well-organised file structures, layer standards, naming conventions, and revision control that allow all project team members to access and use drawing and model outputs reliably throughout the project
Design Coordination & Team Collaboration
- Work closely with designers, engineers, and construction managers — maintaining active, proactive coordination to ensure that drawing outputs reflect the latest design decisions, construction constraints, and engineering requirements across all disciplines involved in the infrastructure project
- Apply standard design principles and theories to complete drawing assignments — demonstrating the engineering understanding necessary to identify and resolve potential design conflicts, coordination issues, and dimensional inconsistencies before they reach the construction stage
- Utilise technical manuals and engineering directives to ensure that all drawings comply with applicable codes and company policies — including UAE and Abu Dhabi authority standards, relevant international codes, and Carlisle’s internal engineering and drawing standards
- Make required changes, additions, and revisions as directed — processing design changes, incorporating authority comments, and updating drawing packages with the accuracy and efficiency that active construction projects demand from experienced senior draughtsmen
Standards Compliance & Technical Excellence
- Ensure all drawings and design outputs meet company and industry standards and codes — demonstrating consistent application of the engineering drawing standards, specification requirements, and quality control procedures applicable to utilities and infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi and the broader UAE/GCC market
- Apply knowledge of GIS and spatial data tools — integrating geographic data, utility mapping, and infrastructure asset location information into drawing packages and models that support accurate as-built representation and authority submission
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as directed — demonstrating the professional flexibility and broad infrastructure drafting capability of a senior draughtsman who has worked across the full range of utilities project types and documentation requirements in the UAE and GCC
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or 3-Year Diploma in Engineering from an accredited institution — in a relevant engineering discipline such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, surveying, or an equivalent technical field directly applicable to infrastructure drafting work
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 10+ years of demonstrable drafting experience on infrastructure (mainly utilities) projects in the UAE and GCC — this is a strict minimum requirement; candidates without direct UAE or GCC utilities infrastructure drafting experience should not apply for this senior role
- Must have hands-on experience and deep knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and Photoshop — with excellent Civil 3D software experience specifically required for the 3D infrastructure design and BIM modelling tasks central to this role
- Experience reading and working from 2D and 3D designs and supplier/manufacturer drawings — with the technical literacy to accurately extract design information from diverse source documents and translate it into precise, compliant working drawings
Personal Attributes
- Professional attitude with good personality and client management skills — able to represent Carlisle professionally in interactions with project engineers, construction managers, clients, and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Fluency in English — both written and spoken, with strong oral and written communication skills required for effective collaboration with diverse, multinational project teams in the UAE construction and infrastructure market
- Ability to work independently on complex tasks — demonstrating the senior-level self-sufficiency, technical judgement, and professional accountability that 10+ years of GCC infrastructure drafting experience is expected to have developed
