Position Overview
This Fibre Laser Cutting Machine Operator role involves setting up and operating CNC fibre laser cutting machines, including loading programs, selecting cutting parameters, and aligning material. You will interpret engineering drawings and nesting instructions, prepare sheet material, monitor machine performance and make on-the-fly adjustments, perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting, carry out quality inspections, and accurately record production data.

Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up and operate fibre laser cutting machines (CNC), including loading programs and selecting cutting parameters
- Fit consumables and align material correctly
- Interpret engineering drawings, nesting instructions, and production schedules for correct part orientation and tolerances
Material Preparation & Performance Monitoring
- Prepare sheet material for cutting, including measuring, marking, de-burring, and ensuring flatness
- Monitor machine performance during cutting cycles, adjusting speed, power, and gas settings as needed
- Stop operations if quality or safety is compromised
Maintenance, Quality & Documentation
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting of laser heads, nozzles, filters, and CNC controls
- Carry out first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using verniers, micrometres, and calipers
- Record production data, job reports, and material usage accurately, ensuring traceability
- Work with nesting/CAD/CAM programmers to optimize nesting and reduce material waste
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Qualification in engineering, fabrication, or manufacturing, or relevant on-the-job experience
Experience Requirements
- Proven experience operating fibre or CO2 laser cutting machines in a production environment (typically 2+ years)
Essential Skills
- Good understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and material properties (steel, stainless steel, aluminium)
- Knowledge of cutting consumables, gas handling, and laser safety standards
Preferred Skills
- Experience with CNC Fiber Laser Cutting Machines, specifically open-table flatbed models for precision sheet metal fabrication
