Position Overview
The Outpatient Pharmacist role at Danat Al Emarat involves providing safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medications to ambulatory patients while maintaining the highest standards of regulatory compliance and patient care. You will review and verify prescriptions, provide comprehensive patient counseling, identify medication-related issues, manage inventory, and contribute to quality improvement and medication safety initiatives. This position supports high-volume outpatient operations while ensuring optimal patient flow and satisfaction.
As an Outpatient Pharmacist, you’ll be integral to the hospital’s pharmacy department, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Your clinical expertise will directly impact patient safety, medication effectiveness, and treatment outcomes. You’ll maintain current knowledge of medications, drug interactions, and clinical practice standards while adhering to DOH, JCI, and hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
Prescription Review & Dispensing Management
- Review, verify, and dispense outpatient prescriptions in accordance with DOH, JCI, and hospital standards
- Ensure accurate medication identification, dosing, and quantity verification before dispensing
- Maintain timely dispensing to support optimal patient flow and waiting-time targets
- Identify and resolve therapeutic duplications, drug interactions, and medication-related issues
- Coordinate with physicians and nurses to clarify and optimize medication orders
Patient Counseling & Education
- Provide accurate and comprehensive patient counseling on medication use and dosing instructions
- Educate patients on medication precautions, side effects, and proper storage conditions
- Answer patient questions regarding medications and healthcare treatment plans
- Support patient adherence to medication regimens and treatment protocols
- Communicate effectively with patients of diverse backgrounds and ages
Medication Safety & Quality Initiatives
- Support medication safety initiatives and LASA (Look-Alike, Sound-Alike) management programs
- Implement and monitor high-alert medication guidelines and protocols
- Document interventions and report medication errors and near-misses appropriately
- Contribute to quality and performance improvement activities within the pharmacy department
- Participate in clinical audits and medication safety assessments
Inventory & Supply Management
- Maintain accurate inventory control and systematic expiry monitoring procedures
- Ensure proper storage conditions for all medications and pharmaceutical products
- Manage stock levels to ensure medication availability while minimizing waste
- Collaborate with pharmacy suppliers and vendors for procurement and delivery
- Support inventory reconciliation and cycle counting activities
Professional Development & Collaboration
- Participate in department meetings, training sessions, and competency assessments
- Maintain current knowledge of medications, clinical guidelines, and pharmacy practice standards
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to optimize patient care outcomes
- Support new staff orientation and mentorship activities
- Contribute to continuous professional development and continuing education
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution
- Master’s degree in Pharmacy or specialized pharmacy field (preferred)
- Graduation from recognized pharmacy program with full coursework completion
Professional Licenses & Credentials
- Valid Department of Health (DOH) pharmacy license or license eligibility
- Professional registration as registered pharmacist (RPh) in UAE
- Clear criminal background check and professional reference requirements
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience in hospital or outpatient pharmacy setting
- Previous experience in specialty pharmacy or women’s health pharmacy (advantageous)
- Experience with medication safety programs and quality improvement initiatives
- Familiarity with pharmacy management systems and electronic health records (EHR)
Language & Communication Skills
- Arabic language proficiency (strongly preferred for patient counseling)
- Fluent English communication skills for documentation and team collaboration
- Strong interpersonal and patient communication abilities
