Position Overview

The QC Food Microbiologist at Kezad, Abu Dhabi is a technically expert quality control role spanning the full spectrum of food microbiological safety — from routine plate count analysis and ATP testing through to HACCP plan development, environmental monitoring, trend analysis, corrective action recommendations, audit support, product recall assistance, and production team training. You will work closely with QC, Production, R&D, and Food Safety teams to resolve microbiological challenges, maintain accurate laboratory records, ensure UAE food safety regulatory compliance, and uphold laboratory health and safety standards. With a minimum of 4 years of Quality & Food Safety experience and 2 years of specialised microbiological laboratory experience, this is a senior scientific role that demands both technical depth and cross-functional communication capability.

Why This Role Matters: As QC Food Microbiologist at Kezad, your microbiological analysis is the scientific defence between hazardous food safety failures and the consumers who trust that every product leaving this facility is safe to eat. Your plate count results determine whether a production batch is released or held. Your HACCP plan updates protect the facility against microbial contamination risks that, if not controlled, can cause illness, product recalls, and serious regulatory consequences. Your environmental swabbing and monitoring programmes keep contamination threats visible and manageable before they become emergencies. And your training of production staff on hygiene and sanitation creates the food safety culture that ensures your laboratory controls are matched by consistent good practice on the production floor every single day.

 Key Responsibilities

Routine & Specialised Microbiological Testing

  • Conduct routine and specialised microbiological testing of food products, raw materials, finished goods, and environmental samples — using validated standard methods applicable to the facility’s product categories and regulatory requirements
  • Perform microbiological analysis using plate count methods, ATP bioluminescence testing, microscopy, and other laboratory techniques — applying each method correctly and consistently to generate reliable, defensible analytical results
  • Monitor microbiological risks across the facility’s production environment — including product, raw material, water, surface, and air sampling programmes — identifying emerging risk patterns before they develop into food safety incidents
  • Ensure all microbiological testing is conducted in strict compliance with relevant UAE food safety regulations, ISO 22000 requirements, and the facility’s internal quality management system procedures

HACCP Plan Management & Food Safety Controls

  • Develop, review, and update HACCP plans — ensuring all identified biological hazards are accurately documented, critical control points are correctly defined, and monitoring, corrective action, and verification procedures are current and effective
  • Support the implementation of food safety controls — translating HACCP plan requirements into practical, operational food safety monitoring activities that are consistently applied across production
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in food safety — identifying opportunities to strengthen microbiological controls, reduce contamination risks, and improve the overall effectiveness of the food safety management system
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System requirements — contributing to the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the facility’s food safety management framework

Data Analysis, Trend Identification & Corrective Actions

  • Analyse microbiological data systematically — identifying statistical trends, seasonal patterns, and emerging contamination risks that may not be apparent from individual result reviews
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions based on data analysis — providing the QC, Production, and Food Safety teams with evidence-based, actionable recommendations that address root causes rather than surface symptoms
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organised laboratory records, test reports, and corrective action documentation — ensuring all records are retrievable, audit-ready, and maintained in compliance with ISO 22000 documentation requirements
  • Prepare microbiological performance reports and trend analysis summaries for management — providing clear, structured insights that support informed food safety decision-making at all levels of the organisation

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Team Support

  • Work closely with QC, Production, R&D, and Food Safety teams to investigate and resolve microbiological issues — applying scientific expertise and collaborative problem-solving to find practical, sustainable solutions
  • Support internal and external food safety audits — preparing microbiological testing records, trend reports, corrective action evidence, and HACCP documentation to a consistently audit-ready standard
  • Support product recall activities and crisis management processes — providing rapid microbiological investigation, root cause analysis, and scientific support when food safety incidents require urgent management response
  • Provide structured training to production teams on hygiene practices, sanitation procedures, and microbiological control measures — building food safety knowledge and behavioural compliance across the operational workforce

Laboratory Safety & UAE Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable UAE food safety regulations and standards — maintaining current knowledge of relevant food safety legislation, regulatory guidance, and authority inspection requirements
  • Maintain a safe working environment within the microbiological laboratory — implementing and adhering to laboratory health and safety procedures, biosafety protocols, and waste disposal requirements
  • Support broader HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) initiatives across the facility — contributing to a workplace culture where safety is embedded in every scientific and operational activity

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology, Microbiology, or a closely related scientific discipline — required as the foundational qualification for this QC Food Microbiologist position
  • Additional certifications in food safety management (HACCP, ISO 22000 Internal Auditor, FSSC 22000) are a meaningful professional advantage for this senior quality role

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant Quality & Food Safety experience — demonstrating progressive responsibility in food quality assurance, food safety management, and regulatory compliance
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on microbiological laboratory experience — with direct daily use of plate count, ATP, microscopy, and other microbiological analytical techniques in a food manufacturing context
  • Experience developing, reviewing, or implementing HACCP plans in a food manufacturing environment — essential for the HACCP management responsibilities of this role

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of microbiological testing techniques and laboratory procedures — including plate count methods (TPC, coliform, yeast and mould, pathogen testing), ATP testing, microscopy, and environmental sampling
  • Very good knowledge of HACCP and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems — applied practically in food manufacturing quality and safety management roles
  • Knowledge of UAE food safety standards and regulatory requirements — including familiarity with UAE food authority inspection processes and compliance expectations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills — able to interpret complex microbiological data, identify trends, and recommend evidence-based corrective actions
  • Good computer skills — for laboratory data management, report preparation, and trend analysis using standard office and laboratory software tools
