Key Responsibilities
RF Passive & Active Circuit Design — Phased Array Systems
- Take hands-on responsibility for the design and realization of RF passive and active circuits used in phased array antennas, large RF systems, and other critical RF components across radar platforms
- Design and test circuits for receivers, transmitters, local oscillators, and complete RF subsystems — ensuring performance meets stringent defense-grade specifications across all operating conditions
- Design chip and wire components for use in receivers, high-power limiters, and transmitters — applying deep microwave circuit design expertise to hybrid and monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) implementations
- Collaborate closely with fellow engineers and technicians throughout the hardware realization process — from design intent through to completed, tested RF electronics assemblies
RF Simulation & System Performance Analysis
- Simulate circuit and system performance using industry-leading analytical software — AWR Microwave Office, VSS, Ansys, CST, HFSS, and MATLAB — to predict, validate, and optimize RF design performance before hardware build
- Perform RF architecture definition, frequency planning, and RF link budget analysis to ensure radar system designs meet range, sensitivity, dynamic range, and noise figure requirements
- Apply complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the RF and microwave engineering field to solve complex design challenges
- Provide clear, technically rigorous solutions to a wide range of difficult RF engineering problems — applying both analytical and simulation-based approaches to deliver optimized design outcomes
RF Hardware Testing & Performance Verification
- Participate in and guide the testing of RF hardware for required performance metrics in antenna and phased array systems — including VSWR, insertion loss, power output, gain-to-noise-temperature (G/T), and phase noise characterization
- Use laboratory test equipment including Vector Network Analyzers (VNA), spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters to validate RF circuit and subsystem performance against design specifications
- Perform debugging and failure analysis on RF hardware — identifying root causes of performance shortfalls and implementing design corrections to achieve specification compliance
- Test and comprehensively document designs in preparation for potential production release — ensuring complete traceability between design intent, simulation results, and measured hardware performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Documentation
- Support cross-functional engineering teams in building advanced radar solutions — coordinating effectively between RF design, antenna, systems engineering, and test teams throughout the product development lifecycle
- Prepare clear, detailed technical documentation including design specifications, test reports, circuit descriptions, and production readiness assessments for internal engineering review and program reporting
- Communicate RF engineering findings, design trade-offs, and performance results clearly to cross-disciplinary engineering colleagues, program managers, and technical leadership
