Position Overview
This Software Engineer (Data) role at PRYPCO in Dubai is a full-time position embedded at the core of the company’s data engineering function. You will own the design, build, and operation of data platforms and ETL pipelines that streamline how data flows, is processed, and is made accessible across PRYPCO’s product, engineering, and data science teams. This means building and maintaining efficient pipelines using Python, SQL, and Unix shell scripting; orchestrating workflows with Apache Airflow; leveraging distributed processing engines including Trino, Spark, Snowflake, and BigQuery; and establishing data standards, comprehensive documentation, and a company-wide data registry. The role demands strong Agile engineering practices including TDD, CI/CD, and refactoring discipline, as well as the systems thinking and communication skills to translate ambiguous cross-functional requirements into robust, scalable data solutions. Optional experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), Kubernetes, Terraform, Data Mesh principles, and observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK Stack are additional advantages in this high-impact data engineering role.
Why This Role Matters: As Software Engineer (Data) at PRYPCO Dubai, you are building the data foundation that drives every significant business decision across the company — your pipelines, your architecture choices, and your data quality standards directly shape how accurately and confidently every team operates, you work with a genuinely modern data engineering stack combining Airflow orchestration, Snowflake and BigQuery analytics warehouses, Trino and Spark distributed processing, and Kubernetes-based infrastructure in a real production environment that demands engineering excellence, you have end-to-end ownership of real data problems — not just ticket execution — meaning your architectural thinking and automation initiatives have visible, company-wide impact from day one, and you build a high-value data engineering career in Dubai’s fast-growing PropTech and technology sector, in a tax-free environment that increasingly attracts some of the world’s most talented data professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Data Platform Design, Build & Maintenance
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reliable data platforms that streamline end-to-end data pipelines and automate previously manual data workflows across the organization
- Architect and implement scalable ETL pipelines using Python, SQL, and Unix shell scripting — ensuring data flows reliably from source systems to consumption layers
- Orchestrate complex data workflows using Apache Airflow — building, monitoring, and maintaining DAGs that support PRYPCO’s data processing at scale
- Leverage distributed data processing and query engines including Trino, Apache Spark, Snowflake, and BigQuery to deliver high-performance analytics and data processing capabilities
Data Standards, Documentation & Registry Management
- Establish, enforce, and continuously improve data standards across the company — defining naming conventions, data quality rules, and engineering best practices that all teams follow
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate data documentation that makes it easy for every team to understand, trust, and effectively use the data platform
- Manage the company-wide data registry — ensuring all datasets, pipelines, schemas, and data assets are catalogued, described, and discoverable across the organization
- Plan and execute organisation-wide platform improvements — defining best practices for coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance that raise the overall engineering standard
Cross-Functional Partnership & User Onboarding
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams across Product, Engineering, and Data Science to translate ambiguous and evolving requirements into practical, scalable data platform solutions
- Onboard and support platform users — helping teams across the organization adopt data tools, understand pipelines, and get maximum value from the data infrastructure you build
- Communicate platform updates, data insights, and engineering decisions through dashboards, internal bots, and other tooling that makes data accessible and actionable company-wide
- Use data and engineering metrics to guide platform decisions — continuously improving reliability, performance, and usability based on evidence rather than assumption
Agile Engineering Practices & Continuous Improvement
- Apply strong Agile engineering practices consistently — including Test-Driven Development (TDD), continuous refactoring, CI/CD pipelines, and Extreme Programming (XP) principles
- Contribute to the definition and enforcement of engineering quality standards across the data platform — code reviews, testing frameworks, deployment automation, and monitoring
- Identify and implement platform improvements that enhance reliability, reduce technical debt, and position PRYPCO’s data infrastructure for sustainable long-term scale
- Bring a continuous improvement mindset to every aspect of the data platform — proactively identifying optimization opportunities and acting on them with ownership and urgency
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical discipline — or equivalent practical professional experience
