Position Overview

The Quality Assurance Supervisor – Fresh in Collins, Mississippi is responsible for supervising all day-to-day QA department activities within a poultry slaughter and disassembly facility. You will manage quality checks, validate production specifications, oversee holds management, lead process improvement initiatives, and ensure full compliance with all company policies and federal/state food safety regulations. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical QA expertise and strong people management skills in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

 Key Responsibilities

Daily QA Department Management

  • Manage day-to-day activities of the QA department by establishing and adjusting procedures to meet production schedules and increase efficiencies
  • Deploy and rotate QA personnel in the most effective manner to optimize department performance
  • Manage quality assurance and food safety checks, validating results against production and customer specifications
  • Oversee management of products placed on hold, ensuring accurate documentation and timely resolution
  • Ensure all daily reporting is accurately completed including departmental reports, attendance, staffing, and NR reporting

Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Partner with Operations to ensure a food-safe and sanitary plant environment following all USDA specifications
  • Follow and enforce all company policies including HACCP, SSOPs, and GMP standards throughout the facility
  • Maintain compliance with all Federal and State regulations including USDA and OSHA requirements
  • Monitor improvement metrics and respond quickly to unfavorable quality or safety trends

Process Improvement & Performance

  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement including complaint investigation, waste reduction, and product quality enhancement
  • Lead or participate in planning and implementation of facility-wide process improvements
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and shifts to ensure location goals are met or exceeded
  • Reduce or eliminate repeat deficiencies such as hold products, accidents, and downtime through proactive interventions

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor, coach, and train employees while encouraging career development and cross-training opportunities
  • Provide consistent feedback on employee strengths and areas needing improvement
  • Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions fairly and consistently
  • Follow and promote all safety initiatives, ensuring appropriate PPE is worn in all mandatory areas
  • Adhere to union negotiated contract requirements where applicable

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Agricultural-related field required
  • Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered as a degree substitute
  • HACCP certification is preferred and highly advantageous

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting; 3 years in food manufacturing or poultry industry preferred
  • At least 1 year of leadership experience including timekeeping, policy adherence, and conflict resolution; 3 years preferred
  • Working knowledge of poultry processing, food safety regulations, OSHA guidelines, GMP, and HACCP systems

  • Effective verbal and written communication in English; bilingual or multilingual ability is a strong plus
  • Strong attention to detail with organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in computer applications and math skills for reporting and data analysis

Physical & Safety Requirements

  • Ability to work non-standard or extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Exposure to noise levels above 85 decibels, CO2, and moving production equipment
  • Working conditions include heat up to 99°F (37°C) and cold as low as 45°F (4°C)
  • Exposure to wet, dusty environments and live or raw animal odors
  • Must follow and enforce all departmental and company safety policies and PPE requirements at all times
