Position Overview

This Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor role involves taking lead in protecting integrity of Perdue Foods products and processes at Georgetown, Delaware facility. You will champion food safety excellence by driving ongoing development and execution of comprehensive sanitation and food safety programs that meet regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations, play hands-on role monitoring daily plant practices and verifying strict compliance with USDA regulations including HACCP, SSOP, and GMP, use data-driven insights to identify trends and address potential food safety risks early preventing incidents, develop programs and procedures ensuring regulatory and company food safety requirements are met and maintained, update, manage and maintain SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) and other prerequisite programs in organized and effective manner, audit all SSOP and HACCP records providing timely feedback to management for corrective actions, maintain positive relationship with USDA inspectors keeping current with evolving food safety regulations, provide training and documentation for all levels of plant associates concerning SSOP and HACCP programs, provide hands-on involvement in all food safety problems arising during shift developing appropriate solutions and corrective/preventative measures, and conduct validations of scientific data supporting facility food safety decisions as needed yearly.

Key Responsibilities

Food Safety Program Development & Implementation

  • Develop programs and procedures ensuring regulatory and company food safety requirements are met and maintained
  • Communicate food safety programs to all associates and train them prior to implementation
  • Update, manage and maintain SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) in organized and effective manner
  • Manage and maintain HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) plans ensuring comprehensive hazard control
  • Maintain other prerequisite programs including GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) supporting food safety
  • Drive ongoing development and execution of sanitation programs meeting regulatory and customer expectations

SSOP & HACCP Records Auditing

  • Audit all SSOP records ensuring accurate documentation of sanitation activities and compliance
  • Audit all HACCP records verifying Critical Control Points monitoring and corrective actions
  • Provide timely feedback to management on audit findings and non-conformances
  • Review documentation for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
  • Identify trends in SSOP and HACCP performance requiring management attention
  • Use data-driven insights to identify potential risks and address them early

USDA Relationship & Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain positive relationship with USDA inspectors and regulatory personnel
  • Keep current with USDA regulations concerning SSOP and HACCP programs
  • Ensure compliance with USDA requirements including GMP, SSOP, HACCP, and labeling regulations
  • Respond professionally to USDA findings and implement required corrective actions
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes and update programs accordingly
  • Support facility during USDA audits and inspections with documentation and evidence

Training & Documentation Management

  • Responsible for training all levels of plant associates concerning SSOP and HACCP programs
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of training for all associates
  • Develop training materials and presentations for food safety and sanitation topics
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions ensuring associates understand requirements
  • Verify training effectiveness through assessments and observations
  • Maintain training records for regulatory compliance and audit readiness

Hands-On Food Safety Problem Resolution

  • Provide hands-on involvement in all food safety problems arising during shift
  • Develop appropriate solutions and corrective actions for food safety issues
  • Implement preventative measures addressing root causes of food safety problems
  • Monitor daily plant practices verifying compliance with food safety standards
  • Play hands-on role ensuring strong culture of food safety across operations
  • Escalate critical food safety issues to management immediately for resolution

Scientific Validation & Data Analysis

  • Conduct validations of scientific data supporting facility food safety decisions as needed yearly
  • Review and validate Critical Control Point critical limits and monitoring procedures
  • Analyze data from SSOP and HACCP monitoring identifying trends and improvement opportunities
  • Use data-driven insights to identify potential risks and address them proactively
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using scientific and statistical methods
  • Document validation studies and maintain records for regulatory compliance

Plant Monitoring & Compliance Verification

  • Monitor daily plant practices ensuring adherence to food safety and quality standards
  • Verify compliance with sanitation schedules and procedures throughout facility
  • Conduct plant inspections identifying food safety hazards and sanitation deficiencies
  • Review production practices ensuring compliance with HACCP plans and SOPs
  • Champion food safety excellence across all plant operations and departments
  • Help ensure strong culture of food safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science (Required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Operations Management, Biology, or Chemistry acceptable
  • Strong academic foundation in food safety principles and microbiology

Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years’ experience in food safety or quality assurance role (Required)
  • Experience in food processing or poultry plant environment preferred
  • Hands-on experience implementing HACCP and SSOP programs
  • Background in food safety management and regulatory compliance

Certification & Regulatory Knowledge

  • HACCP certification required (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points)
  • Knowledge of USDA regulations including GMP, SSOP, and HACCP (Required)
  • Understanding of USDA labeling requirements and regulations (Required)
  • Must have experience with food safety plant-style audits (Required)
  • Familiarity with HACCP and SSOP requirements including monitoring and validation processes (Required)

  • Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings

Plant Environment Physical Requirements

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors including metal and plastic grating surfaces
  • May be exposed to temperatures ranging from 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • May work in environments with both ambient and 100% humidity conditions
  • May handle products at temperatures from 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit
  • May be exposed to noise ranges from 50 decibels to 110 decibels
  • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, and processing facility
  • May need to climb ladders for facility inspections and audits
  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for job as directed by Company

Schedule Requirements

  • Monday through Friday work schedule (no weekends)
  • Evening shift: 5:00pm – 2:00am (consistent schedule)
  • Must be available for full shift duration for plant coverage
  • Flexibility for occasional overtime during peak production or audit periods
