Position Overview

This Microbiologist position in the UAE offers an excellent opportunity to apply and develop your scientific skills within a professional laboratory environment. You will be responsible for conducting microbiological tests on a range of samples — detecting and quantifying microorganisms with precision and adherence to standardised protocols. Beyond testing, you will analyse data and compile detailed reports, maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments, and work collaboratively with fellow scientists and technicians to continuously improve testing methodologies. This role is ideal for a microbiologist who combines strong analytical thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive problem-solving approach with a genuine commitment to laboratory safety and quality excellence in the UAE.

Why This Role Matters: As a Microbiologist in the UAE, your work sits at the critical intersection of science, safety, and public health protection. Every test you perform, every data set you analyse, and every method you validate contributes directly to ensuring that the products, environments, or systems you test are safe, compliant, and of the highest scientific standard. In a region where quality, compliance, and innovation are driving the growth of laboratory science, your skills and dedication as a microbiologist genuinely make a difference every single day.

Key Responsibilities

Microbiological Testing & Sample Analysis

  • Conduct comprehensive microbiological tests on a wide variety of samples — detecting, identifying, and quantifying microorganisms with strict adherence to standardised laboratory protocols.
  • Perform routine and specialised microbiology tests including sterility testing, enumeration of microorganisms, pathogen detection, and environmental monitoring as required.
  • Prepare and process test samples accurately — following prescribed sample handling, preparation, and storage procedures to maintain sample integrity throughout testing.
  • Record all testing activities, observations, and results accurately in laboratory information systems — maintaining complete and traceable documentation for every sample processed.

Data Analysis & Scientific Reporting

  • Interpret microbiological test results with precision — applying strong analytical skills to evaluate data against specification limits, regulatory thresholds, and quality standards.
  • Compile comprehensive, well-structured laboratory reports that clearly summarise findings, flag out-of-specification results, and recommend further investigation or corrective actions where required.
  • Use laboratory software and data analysis tools to process, visualise, and communicate microbiological data accurately and efficiently to both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
  • Identify trends, patterns, or anomalies in microbiological data that may indicate quality issues, contamination risks, or opportunities to improve testing protocols and reliability.

Laboratory Equipment Maintenance & Calibration

  • Conduct regular inspection, calibration, and preventive maintenance of all laboratory instruments to ensure consistently accurate and reliable microbiological test results.
  • Log all equipment maintenance activities, calibration records, and performance verification results in accordance with laboratory quality management and compliance requirements.
  • Identify and promptly report equipment malfunctions, calibration failures, or performance deviations — coordinating repairs or recalibration to minimise testing downtime.
  • Ensure all laboratory instruments and consumables are stocked, organised, and maintained in full compliance with laboratory safety and hygiene standards at all times.

Method Development & Validation

  • Develop, optimise, and validate new microbiological testing methods to improve efficiency, reliability, accuracy, and throughput within the laboratory environment.
  • Write clear, comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new and revised testing methods — ensuring all protocols are fully documented, reviewed, and approved.
  • Conduct method validation studies including accuracy, precision, detection limit, and specificity assessments — documenting all findings in formal validation reports.
  • Stay current with advances in microbiological testing technology, regulatory guidance, and industry best practices to inform ongoing method improvement and innovation.

Compliance, Safety & Team Collaboration

  • Maintain a consistently clean, sterile, and safe laboratory working environment — strictly following all applicable safety regulations, quality standards, and laboratory code of practice.
  • Ensure full personal and team compliance with laboratory safety protocols — including PPE usage, chemical handling, biological waste disposal, and emergency procedures.
  • Collaborate actively with fellow scientists, laboratory technicians, and quality professionals — sharing results, insights, and expertise to collectively improve testing protocols and scientific outcomes.
  • Participate in internal quality audits, proficiency testing programmes, and laboratory accreditation activities to support the team’s commitment to continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or higher qualification in Microbiology, Biomedical Science, Food Science, Biology, or a closely related scientific discipline — a firm minimum requirement.
  • Additional certification or training in laboratory quality management, ISO 17025, food safety microbiology, or related regulatory frameworks is a valued and welcomed advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • Between 1 and 7 years of hands-on professional experience in a microbiology laboratory environment — early-career scientists and experienced professionals are both encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated practical experience conducting microbiological tests, analysing results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and preparing scientific reports in a professional laboratory setting.
  • Prior exposure to method development, method validation, or SOP writing in a quality-accredited laboratory environment is a strong competitive advantage for shortlisting.

Essential Skills

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills — able to interpret complex microbiological data accurately, identify anomalies, and draw sound scientific conclusions from test results.
  • Outstanding attention to detail — ensuring every test, every record, and every report meets the highest standards of scientific accuracy and laboratory quality compliance.
  • Clear and confident communication skills — able to write precise laboratory reports, brief team members effectively, and present scientific findings to both technical and management audiences.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instruments and software platforms used for microbiological data capture, analysis, and reporting in a modern professional laboratory environment.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with strong time management skills — able to manage multiple testing workloads and meet deadlines consistently in a busy laboratory setting.
