Position Overview
The Water Quality Engineer (ALSS) at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is a technically demanding and deeply rewarding role within the Zoological Department. You will perform preventive, corrective, and service maintenance of all Animal Life Support Systems (ALSS) equipment, analyze water quality data from control systems and laboratory results, troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and filtration systems, and maintain meticulous documentation of all technical activities. This position operates on a shifting schedule — including night shifts and public holidays — and requires physical capability including working in confined spaces and lifting up to 45 kg.

Key Responsibilities
General ALSS Operations & Maintenance
- Perform all assigned preventive, corrective, and service maintenance tasks on ALSS equipment and ensure timely completion across all work orders
- Ensure all animal life support systems operate within applicable environmental regulations and permit conditions at all times
- Analyze water quality data from control systems, meters, laboratory results, and Animal Care staff inputs to diagnose and resolve system problems
- Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance activities and report system status clearly to the ALSS leadership team
- Apply safe handling, storage, and disposal practices for toxic substances and hazardous waste strictly in line with company SOPs and manuals
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of chemical drums, storage areas, workstations, and all department tools and equipment inventory
- Work safely in vaults and confined spaces using proper safety techniques, personal protective equipment, and company protocols
Technical Scope — Pump Mechanic
- Inspect, diagnose, and perform major and minor repair works on all ALSS pumps, motors, hydraulic equipment, compressors, and related controls
- Rebuild pump equipment to manufacturer specifications and conduct analyses to determine the most cost-effective maintenance or replacement strategy
- Ensure the continuous, uninterrupted operation of all saltwater, freshwater, and water treatment systems supporting animal habitats
- Interpret pump curves and accurately diagnose and repair a variety of pump issues including primary faults, cavitation, and excessive vibration
Technical Scope — Systems Automation
- Conduct testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on low and medium voltage industrial electrical systems, ozone generators, UV sterilizers, level sensors, ORP and pH probes
- Install, maintain, repair, and calibrate a wide variety of ALSS electronic recording and indicating instruments across all habitats
- Maintain, monitor, and operate automated life support and water treatment facility systems with precision and reliability
- Install conduits, wires, and pull boxes for electrical system additions, extensions, and alterations as required
Technical Scope — Filtration Mechanic
- Monitor real-time water quality and system trends via computer-based controls systems and respond promptly to alarms or out-of-range conditions
- Manage the draining, filling, and isolation of all habitats, holding pools, decorative pools, and waterfalls safely and accurately
- Perform filter, pump, valve, and piping maintenance and repairs to maintain optimal water circulation and treatment across all systems
- Conduct proper water chemistry testing, interpret results across all system types, and take appropriate corrective actions to maintain water balance in line with corporate and local regulatory standards
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Diploma in a relevant technical qualification — mechanical, electrical, electronics, marine engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of directly related technical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience
- Basic English communication skills — verbal and written — for operational reporting and team coordination
- Excellent troubleshooting skills specific to chosen field of expertise (pump, automation, or filtration systems)
- Working knowledge of basic hand tools and measuring devices relevant to ALSS maintenance and repair tasks
- Basic computer skills including MS Office applications (Word and Excel) for maintenance logging and reporting
Desirable Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Marine Engineering or equivalent higher qualification
- 2+ years of direct experience in aquatic life support systems within a zoo, aquarium, or oceanarium environment
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
