Position Overview
This Mechanical Design Engineer (MEP) role at WAHA AİR in Dubai is a senior technical design position covering the full mechanical design scope for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and firefighting systems across commercial and industrial projects. You will develop and review mechanical designs, prepare shop drawings and material submittals, perform detailed cooling load and pipe sizing calculations, support BMS control strategy development, and ensure full compliance with the comprehensive set of UAE local authority standards including ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, ADDC, DEWA, ADM, DCD, and ESTIDAMA. Working closely with senior engineers, MEP managers, and site teams, you will provide critical design support and technical solutions from concept through commissioning — combining strong technical design expertise with the UAE-specific regulatory knowledge essential for delivering compliant, high-performing building systems in this demanding and fast-growing market.
Why This Role Matters: As Mechanical Design Engineer at WAHA AİR in Dubai, you will design HVAC, plumbing, and firefighting systems for commercial and industrial projects across one of the world’s most dynamic construction markets, apply your ASHRAE, NFPA, and ESTIDAMA expertise to deliver fully compliant, energy-efficient building systems, work with industry-leading tools including Revit MEP and AutoCAD on technically demanding UAE projects, and build a senior MEP design career with a growing international HVAC company actively establishing its brand presence across the Dubai region.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical System Design & Standards Compliance
- Develop comprehensive mechanical designs for HVAC, plumbing, and drainage systems based on specific project requirements, building types, and client specifications across commercial and industrial developments in Dubai
- Ensure all mechanical designs fully comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, ADDC, DEWA, ADM, DCD, and ESTIDAMA standards — maintaining rigorous attention to the full set of UAE regulatory and authority requirements throughout the design process
- Assist in energy efficiency studies and ESCO (Energy Service Company) project design support — contributing technical analysis that drives improved building performance and sustainability outcomes across WAHA AİR’s project portfolio
- Manage drafting teams assigned to each project — overseeing technical drawing production, reviewing draft quality, and ensuring design outputs meet WAHA AİR’s engineering standards and client expectations
Shop Drawings, Material Submittals & Coordination
- Prepare and modify detailed shop drawings in close coordination with the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer — translating design concepts into accurate, construction-ready technical documentation
- Support the preparation of material submittals, ensuring full alignment with approved project specifications, technical standards, and client requirements before submission for approval
- Coordinate proactively with MEP site teams for design-related clarifications — resolving technical queries promptly to maintain project momentum and design accuracy throughout the construction phase
Mechanical Calculations & Control System Support
- Perform detailed cooling load calculations, ventilation sizing calculations, and smoke management system calculations using ASHRAE, CIBSE, and SMACNA methodologies to ensure accurate, code-compliant system sizing
- Conduct pipe sizing calculations for plumbing, LPG, drainage, and firefighting systems — applying UPC, IPC, and local UAE regulatory standards to ensure correct, compliant system design across every project
- Confirm firefighting pump and tank capacities in accordance with Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) regulations — ensuring full life safety compliance for all fire protection system designs
- Assist in developing Building Management System (BMS) control strategies and sequences of operation — supporting the integration of intelligent automation that optimises building energy performance and occupant comfort
Technical Coordination, Reporting & Software Utilisation
- Collaborate closely with electrical and ELV (Extra Low Voltage) engineers to ensure proper, fully integrated design of control systems across mechanical, electrical, and automation disciplines
- Support MEP and construction managers by proactively identifying and addressing design-related issues that arise during project execution — providing timely technical solutions that keep projects on schedule
- Prepare detailed technical reports and project documentation as required — maintaining clear, professional records that support project handover, client communication, and internal quality assurance processes
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Primavera — using these industry-standard tools to produce accurate technical drawings, coordinated MEP models, and well-managed project schedules
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised, accredited university — a strong mechanical engineering foundation is essential for the technical scope this MEP design role demands
Experience Requirements
- 5 to 10 years of overall mechanical engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in mechanical design for MEP projects within a commercial or industrial construction environment
- Minimum 3 years of experience working within a consultancy firm is specifically required for this role — direct consultancy design experience is a non-negotiable requirement for this position
- UAE experience is a must — candidates must hold a thorough working knowledge of local authority approval processes and the specific design standards applicable across Dubai and the broader UAE
Technical Knowledge & Software Skills
- Expertise in designing chilled water, DX (Direct Expansion), VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow), AHU (Air Handling Unit), FAHU (Fresh Air Handling Unit), and ventilation systems across diverse building types
