Position Overview
This Ag Field Representative role involves supporting Seneca Foods’ agricultural operations in Cumberland, Wisconsin by assisting in developing and managing grower contracts, consulting directly with growers throughout planting seasons, implementing new agricultural technology, supervising planting and harvesting of crops, planning and coordinating detailed crop schedules, scouting crops in the field for quality and readiness, directing spraying applications, determining optimal harvest timing, mapping fields for logistics planning, and maintaining thorough records to support one of North America’s largest packaged produce operations.

Key Responsibilities
Grower Relations & Contract Development
- Develop grower contracts and manage the full contracting process from negotiation to agreement
- Consult directly with growers, clients, and vendors throughout the planting season
- Build and maintain strong grower relationships supporting Seneca Foods’ sourcing network
- Serve as primary field contact ensuring growers meet quality and production specifications
Crop Planting & Harvest Supervision
- Supervise planting and harvesting of crops across assigned territory
- Plan and coordinate detailed planting and harvesting schedules for optimal timing
- Determine fields ready for harvest through pre-testing, scouting, and quality assessment
- Oversee harvest logistics ensuring timely delivery to Seneca processing facilities
Crop Scouting & Agronomy Support
- Scout crops actively in the field monitoring health, growth, and yield potential
- Apply agronomy expertise identifying crop issues, pest pressure, and environmental concerns
- Implement new agricultural technology improving crop management and production efficiency
- Provide technical agronomic consulting advice directly to growers as needed
Spray Application Management
- Direct spraying applications ensuring proper chemical use, timing, and compliance
- Monitor pesticide and herbicide applications meeting regulatory and safety standards
- Coordinate with vendors and applicators for efficient and effective spray programs
- Maintain accurate records of all chemical applications in assigned territory
Field Mapping, Travel & Record Keeping
- Map fields accurately documenting boundaries, features, and crop placement
- Travel across assigned territory and out-of-state as required for operations
- Maintain comprehensive and detailed records of all field activities and observations
- Prepare reports supporting production planning and contract management teams
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Background
- College education in Agriculture, Agronomy, or closely related field highly recommended
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in crop science, horticulture, or agricultural business valued
- Relevant certifications in agronomy or crop management are an advantage
Experience & Industry Knowledge
- Farm background desirable — firsthand understanding of agricultural operations essential
- Agronomy background with strong understanding of the agricultural industry and its processes
- Experience with crop scouting, planting and harvest supervision, and grower relations
- Familiarity with spray application programs, crop scheduling, and field mapping
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently walk and stand in wet and humid field conditions (Mandatory)
- Comfort working in open fields with exposure to chemicals and high noise environments
- Ability to lift 50 pounds as required during field operations
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required and must be used at all times in field
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in field observations and record keeping
- Willingness and proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for grower and management interaction
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization
- Valid Driver’s License required for travel across territory and out-of-state assignments
- Ability and willingness to travel out of state as operations require
