Key Responsibilities
Field Trial Setup, Maintenance & Plot Management
- Set up and maintain high-quality field research trials on farms and dedicated trial sites across Warwickshire and the broader UK — ensuring all plot layouts, marking systems, and physical trial setups are established accurately and in full compliance with trial protocols
- Prepare trial sites for the full growing season — conducting soil preparation, plot demarcation, irrigation setup where required, and all physical site management activities needed to support accurate, reproducible, and scientifically sound trial conditions

- Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safe working practices during product preparation and application activities — maintaining the highest standards of personal and environmental safety at every field trial site

- Conduct systematic field observations, measurements, crop assessments, and sample collection activities — applying rigorous scientific methodology to ensure all trial data is accurate, reproducible, and suitable for analysis and reporting
- Analyse trial data collected in the field — contributing to data verification, quality checking, and preliminary analysis activities that support the Trials Manager in preparing comprehensive trial reports and client deliverables
- Maintain meticulous trial records — ensuring all field notebooks, digital data entries, application records, and sample logs are complete, accurate, and organized in accordance with SGS’s data integrity and trial management standards
Stakeholder Relations & Team Collaboration
- Build and maintain positive, professional, and trust-based relationships with growers, farm managers, clients, and partner organizations at all trial sites visited — representing SGS with professionalism, technical credibility, and agricultural expertise
- Collaborate effectively with the experienced Trials Manager and broader SGS Natural Resources agriculture team — participating in trial planning discussions, progress reviews, and technical knowledge-sharing activities
- Communicate trial progress, site conditions, practical challenges, and data quality observations clearly to the Trials Manager — ensuring timely and well-informed decision-making on all active trials

Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- A degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Agriculture, Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related life science field — required as the minimum qualification for this SGS Agricultural Trials Specialist role
