Position Overview
The Chemist in Dubai is a hands-on analytical laboratory role requiring a precise, methodical, and quality-focused approach to environmental testing. You will perform chemical analysis of soil and water samples daily — following standardised testing procedures, operating laboratory instruments, recording test results with complete accuracy, and preparing clear technical reports for clients and management. Operating within the framework of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, you will maintain QA/QC compliance, support equipment calibration, troubleshoot analytical issues, manage documentation, and collaborate with laboratory team members to meet all sample turnaround and reporting requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a chemist with environmental, soil, or water testing experience who wants to build or consolidate a professional career in an accredited Dubai laboratory.
Why This Role Matters: As a Chemist at this ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory in Dubai, your analytical work directly informs some of the most important engineering, environmental, and construction decisions made in the UAE. Soil chemistry data you generate determines whether foundations are safe to build on across Dubai’s booming construction sector. Water testing results you produce help protect public health, groundwater quality, and environmental compliance across UAE infrastructure projects. Your accurate reporting protects your laboratory’s accreditation — and your professional attention to detail is what keeps that ISO/IEC 17025:2017 certificate valid and trusted by clients and regulatory authorities alike.
Key Responsibilities
Chemical Analysis & Laboratory Testing
- Perform chemical analysis and laboratory testing of soil and water samples — applying standardised testing methods accurately and consistently to deliver reliable, reproducible analytical results
- Follow all laboratory procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control requirements applicable to each test method — ensuring analytical integrity from sample receipt to result release
- Conduct all testing within the parameters of the laboratory’s ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited scope — never deviating from accredited methods without appropriate authorisation and documentation
- Interpret test results accurately — identifying anomalies, out-of-specification results, or data quality issues and escalating these appropriately before reports are issued
Laboratory Instrument Operation & Maintenance
- Operate, monitor, and maintain all laboratory instruments and equipment assigned to the testing role — ensuring instruments perform within validated parameters at all times
- Assist with equipment calibration activities — supporting the calibration schedule, maintaining calibration records, and ensuring all calibration documentation meets ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements
- Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and analytical performance issues — identifying problems early, initiating corrective actions, and escalating to senior staff or maintenance providers as appropriate
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory workspace — ensuring chemicals, reagents, and consumables are properly stored, labelled, and managed in accordance with laboratory safety procedures
Record Keeping, Documentation & Reporting
- Record all test results accurately, completely, and legibly in laboratory notebooks, worksheets, and LIMS — maintaining full traceability from sample receipt through to final result and report issue
- Prepare clear, accurate, and professionally formatted technical reports for clients — ensuring all data, calculations, units, and interpretive statements are correct and comply with ISO/IEC 17025 reporting requirements
- Maintain proper documentation across all laboratory activities — supporting internal quality audits, external accreditation assessments, and client-facing quality assurance requirements
- Manage data entry and sample tracking in the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) — ensuring sample status, results, and report generation are recorded and accessible in real time
Quality Assurance & ISO/IEC 17025 Compliance
- Support full compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements across all aspects of daily laboratory work — including method compliance, measurement uncertainty, data integrity, and equipment management
- Participate in quality control activities — including the use of certified reference materials, internal QC samples, blind samples, and proficiency testing schemes to verify analytical performance
- Collaborate effectively with laboratory team members to ensure all testing requirements are completed within agreed turnaround times and to the quality standards the accreditation demands
- Contribute to internal continuous improvement activities — identifying opportunities to improve analytical methods, documentation efficiency, or laboratory workflows that benefit quality and productivity
