We are seeking an experienced Food Safety and Quality Inspector to join our team and play a critical role in monitoring and enforcing food safety standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining the highest quality of food products and services. Job Purpose & Objective
The Inspector, Food Safety and Quality is responsible for comprehensive monitoring and enforcement of food safety and quality standards throughout facility operations. This critical role focuses on safeguarding public health, ensuring complete compliance with regulatory requirements, and maintaining the integrity and quality of all food products and services provided by the organization.
As a key member of the quality assurance team, the Food Safety Inspector conducts systematic inspections, performs detailed audits, identifies potential hazards, implements corrective actions, and collaborates with regulatory agencies to ensure continuous compliance with food safety regulations and industry best practices.
Key Accountabilities & Core Responsibilities
Inspection and Monitoring Activities:
- Conduct regular, systematic inspections of food handling areas, storage facilities, and food preparation zones within the facility to verify compliance with food safety standards
- Monitor strict adherence to food safety regulations, sanitation standards, hygiene protocols, and quality control procedures across all operational areas
- Inspect and verify the quality, freshness, safety, and integrity of food products received from suppliers, stored in facilities, and served to consumers
- Identify potential hazards, quality deviations, non-compliance issues, and food safety risks; take appropriate corrective actions and escalate critical concerns
Food Safety Protocol Implementation:
- Implement and rigorously enforce comprehensive food safety protocols including personal hygiene practices, temperature control procedures, cross-contamination prevention, and allergen management programs
- Collaborate professionally with regulatory agencies, health departments, and certification bodies during scheduled inspections, ensuring timely resolution of any compliance issues or findings
- Monitor Critical Control Points (CCPs), verify HACCP implementation, and ensure proper execution of food safety management systems throughout operations
Audit and Assessment Functions:
- Perform comprehensive internal audits and systematic assessments of food safety systems and quality management programs within the facility
- Review and analyze critical documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), HACCP plans, sanitation schedules, temperature logs, and quality control records for accuracy and compliance
- Ensure proper record-keeping of all inspection findings, identified non-conformances, corrective actions implemented, and verification of effectiveness
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing inspection results, audit findings, compliance status, and specific recommendations for continuous improvement
Supplier Quality Management:
- Evaluate and qualify food suppliers and vendors based on their demonstrated adherence to food safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Conduct thorough audits and comprehensive inspections of supplier facilities, warehouses, and production operations to verify compliance with applicable regulations and quality specifications
- Collaborate closely with procurement teams to establish clear specifications, quality standards, and acceptance criteria for food products, ingredients, and packaging materials
- Monitor supplier performance metrics, track quality indicators, and maintain supplier scorecards for continuous evaluation
Training and Staff Development:
- Provide comprehensive training and practical guidance to facility staff on food safety practices, hygiene standards, sanitation procedures, and quality control protocols
- Conduct structured training sessions, workshops, and awareness programs to enhance staff knowledge, understanding, and commitment to food safety and quality requirements
- Develop training materials, visual aids, job aids, and reference documents to support effective learning and consistent application of food safety practices
- Assess training effectiveness, verify competency, and provide ongoing coaching to ensure sustained compliance with food safety standards
Required Qualifications & Educational Background
- Academic Credentials (Mandatory): Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Food Technology, Microbiology, Food Safety Management, Public Health, or equivalent technical field from accredited university
- Industry Experience (Essential): Minimum 6 years of proven professional experience and comprehensive knowledge in food safety operations, quality assurance, and inspection services, preferably in hospitality, food service, catering, or related food industry sectors
- Food Safety Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on experience conducting food safety inspections, implementing HACCP systems, managing quality programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance in food operations
- Inspection Experience: Practical experience conducting facility inspections, supplier audits, compliance assessments, and regulatory liaising in food safety contexts
Professional Certifications & Accreditations
Highly Desirable Professional Qualifications:
- HACCP Certification: Certified in Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) Level 2 or higher from recognized training provider
- GMP Certification: Good Manufacturing Practices certification demonstrating knowledge of hygiene and operational standards
- CP-FS (Certified Professional – Food Safety): Professional food safety certification from recognized credentialing body
- Certified Hospitality Professional: Certification in hospitality or facility management demonstrating industry expertise
- Additional Certifications: ISO 22000 Internal Auditor, Food Safety Manager, ServSafe, or equivalent credentials advantageous
